Wow a Banana Really? (calorie counting)

I did not know that a banana has 100+ calories (105).

I really was not aware of just how many calories I was eating per day. It really puts things into perspective.

Re: Wow a Banana Really? (calorie counting)

  • Yeah but would you rather eat 100 calories of banana or 100 calories of candy? The banana actually has nutritional components that your body needs, candy does not.
  • Ditto PP.  Don't let the calorie count deter you from eating a banana.

It's WAY better than say eating those 100 Snack packs people enjoy.

It just means moderation, that's all :)

  • It's a good investment of calories, though.  I count on an almost-daily banana for the potassium. Smile

  • PPs are right.  Yeah it's a sticket shock at first, but you know that banana is better for you than a fake food bar for 90 calories.  As long as your calories are coming from healthy sources it's ok if some items are higher than you thought.

Oh I understand, I was just really not aware when I was not counting calories. Before I thought just eating like that was good enough now that I am counting it really put into perspective why I never really lost weight.

Yeah, I know it was a real eye opener to me when I started tracking.

  • on a similar note, the portion size is what really got me.  Like a serving of PB is 2 tablespoons.  That's a lot of PB and just glancing at the 200 calories on the label would have turned me off.  But 1 T of PB and a banana, that's 200 calories I'm willing to "spend"

When I was figuring out what I was going to put on my beagle (thin 110 cal), I used a tablespoon of light mayo and I realized that I could have used half and still had plenty.

  • I find a banana really fills me up for only a 100 calories. It's the same as 2 twizzlers which don't fill you up at all, or those little snack packs with a whopping 4 pretzels. I'll take the banana any day! Mine is usually eaten with peanut butter...yum!
