What to wear for tri tomorrow?
I have my second try ever tomorrow and I procrastinated and realized that i should figure out what to wear.
It will be 45ish degrees out and I will bike down a canyon that is know for wind. I will swim in a swim suit and need to layer up in the transition area. I tried to swim with compression shorts over my suit and hated it.
What would you wear? I am struggling between clothing that is easy to wear versus something that will keep me warm. shorts would be easy but cold. Capris would be warmed but a pain to get into wet.
Re: What to wear for tri tomorrow?
First, what is the water temp?
Second, do you have arm warmers? That would definitley help.
The swim in an indoor pool.
No arm warmers unfortunately. But I can shed a layer or two between the bike and run.
I have heard that some people bike with their swim cap to keep in the heat? I may grab my buff and throw it on my head under my helmet.
Cycling in a swim cap sounds miserable. And a thin latex cap won't hold in much heat. Don't ride in the cap. Consider either a pre-tied bandana or a beanie hat under the helmet if you need something.
I also think you're in for a rough road trying to put shorts on in transition. You'll be wet, they'll stick... it'll be like trying to struggle into a sports bra while wet. It'll suck. Plus you'll be rushing, may not be able to sit... ugh. I always swim in my tri shorts.
even though its in a pool, i would swim in tri shorts. then you have padding for the bike. i would not put anything over them, your legs will be moving and stay relatively warm. I woudl throw on a long sleeved shirt and put ear warmers on before my helmet. and even though it would take time, i would put gloves on because i cant work my gears properly if my hands are frozen.
sounds fun, it just sounds cold!
I think the issue i had with my shorts was that they were too big. the shorts would lift in the back and fill with water creating drag shorts basically.
I have a new tighter pair but they have not been tested in action yet....
Thanks for all of the tips! It will be chilly on the bike but not terrible.
