I have hired a personal trainer to help me figure out strength training - I'm pretty clueless about it, and this will push me into good habits, I figure. It will also probably push me harder than I would push myself...
My first session was supposed to be this morning, but there was a scheduling snafu, and my trainer wasn't able to run my session this morning. We'll do a make up session next week.
It gave me time for a longer than normal cardio workout, at least. And, it puts two sessions into one week, which, on second thought, is probably good as I'm just getting started... (we can afford it, but it's expensive enough I wanted to try it out with one session a week - she will give me direction on what strength training to do outside of the sessions, too.)
Here's hoping this will help me get off the weight loss plateau I've been on for ages! (strength training was one idea that was recommended for this...)
Re: Training fail... kinda
Lifting makes SUCH a difference. Plus, it's fun once you know what you're doing, and a great way to measure progress in ways other than the scale.

I've known for a while that I needed to do it. But, I'll admit that the weight area of the gym scares me a bit, mostly because I haven't a clue how to use the equipment or how to structure a workout. Working with a personal trainer should make it possible to get over that...
That's the plan, at least.
I think this is because of all the testosterone floating around - sometimes the guys are intimidating. It is great that you are getting a trainer, good luck!!
Thankfully, the gym I work out at now is not as bad as the previous one for this (the testosterone overload). I used to work out at the gym on base. During the hours the soldiers were doing their morning physical training... The weights area was primarily male, young, and full of themselves.
This new gym actually has a fair number of women in the weights area on the few days I've paid attention. I think that will help.
But, I think I also need the push I'll get with the trainer. Once I have fundamentals down, I'll be more confident in that area. So, hopefully, after the next PCS move (to a new base), I will not be scared away from that area at that base's gym.
(the likelihood of the gym I'm now going to having a branch near the bases that DH's career could take us to are fairly minimal, so I'll probably be back to the base gym)
