Any Proactiv users?

I tried Proactiv when it first came out and really liked it.  Once my skin cleared up I stopped using it and didn't have any problems for a long time.  Then, about 3 years ago, I tried it again and my skin freaked out.  It became very dry and flaky and felt hot to the touch.  I assumed that either they changed the formula since I last used it or my chemistry/hormones changed.

I'm really not happy with my skin right now and I'm considering giving Proactiv one more shot.  Is anyone currently using it?  I have very sensitive, combination skin.  My forehead is my biggest problem.  I constantly get these bumps all over my forehead, and it is especially bad when my skin is on the oily side which it has been recently.

I'm just curious if anyone else has had the same problem with Proactiv in the past and given it another shot and better results.

Thanks Smile

Re: Any Proactiv users?

  • I use Proactiv and have been using it for years. I stopped using the full system early on. I only use the lotion and only at night.
  • My H uses it with no problems. I used Proactiv over the years for little spots and it was okay.  Then I went off bcp and used proactive for some breakouts and my face had the same reaction you described.  It was horrible, so painful and I couldn't cover it up with make-up. I tried another time with a smaller amount and the same thing happened so I will not be using it anymore.  After that last time, my face was completely f-ed up. I didn't even want to leave the house.  Since the benzoyl peroxide is the main ingredient, I tried another treatment with salicyclic acid as it is known to be more gentle for sensitive skin.  I have been using this for 3 nights and my skin is much better.
