Does anyone know about kids bikes?
Yes I know this is not the bump
We need to get a new bike for DS and since it will be passed down to at least 1 more kid, I am willing to get a nicer one.
The guy at the bike shop recommended a Specialized one called the HotRock 16. It is all aluminum so light. 200$.
Is that a reasonable choice? Is that what I should expect to pay for a non-Target bike?
Re: Does anyone know about kids bikes?
We've been looking, too, and yes, that seems about right.
Sort-of-related, I wish we had started him off with a balance bike. Is your LO riding with training wheels? Mine is, and he's begun to pick up speed to the point where I'm sure he's going to seriously injure himself flying down the hills, because the training wheels make him so tippy. We're trying to transition him to riding without the wheels, but it's not going so well. I wish we had gotten the balance bike instead of the training wheels.

We actually had a balance bike and sold it. DS has some special needs, including low tone, and balance is not going to happen for a good 3-4 years, I am guessing (he is 4.5 right now). Given that he loves pedaling the little thrift store bike that a neighbor gave us, I am not willing to do no bikes until he gets to the point of balancing. Also given his issues, high speeds are NOT a problem, lol.
He does already have a good helmet so we are good there, no worries
Sounds about right! Great article on choosing a kids bike.
