Update: it is a stress fracture.

My orthopedist's office just got back to me.  I only talked to my doctor's secretary, but she said he'd reviewed my MRI, and there was a stress fracture in my talus.  No running at all until my appointment on 5/2, at which point he'll go over it in detail with me, blah blah.

On one hand I'm relieved to have a dx.  My PT was getting frustrated because I improved, but it was slow and not as complete as it should've been over the course of 2 months.  I was frustrated too.  It's now been almost 3 months since it probably happened, and I was starting to doubt myself on whether I was imagining the pain.

On the other hand, this means more time off.  That part sucks.

If you can still swim, I have heard that this DVD is a life saver for injured runners:

I didn't ask about swimming, but I'm pretty sure it's ok.  I specifically asked if cycling was ok, and the answer to that was yes.  (Phew.)  I will look into that dvd.

I sure hope so.  I don't know when they start counting the number of weeks of rest -- the initial injury, the last time I ran,...?

I'm sure I'll know more when I go for my next app't.

  • That stinks :( I'm glad you can still cycle and swim!
