Do you watch the news daily?

As much as I like to watch mindless tv, I enjoy watching the news.  I usually have it on in the morning as I am getting ready, just to know what is going on in the world!  The other day my friend was over, and when the news came on she made me change the channel, because its too sad to watch.  I understand the news is 'sad' but that is what is going on in the world, and I can't imagine  not watching it.

Re: Do you watch the news daily?

  • Yes I do, and nothing annoys me more than someone who refuses to watch it because it is too "sad".
  • It was just so weird to me!  But glad I am not the only one who thinks thats a bit weird/annoying.

  • I am a news junkie. I don't understand people who go through life not know what is going on in the world or at least in their own state.
  • I watch it in the morning if I have time. I usually watch it at night though.

  • Is your friend's name Ruth? I also have a very close friend

who HATES the news, and won't read a newspaper. So when

she has an opinion  on something  current it is usually an

opinion she heard from someone else.  But I love her!

  • Absolutely. If I had all day access to TV, it would be on the news nearly the whole time. But as it is now, I have it on in the morning while getting ready for work, at dinner time and at night before bed!

No her name is not Ruth...lol

  • Um. No. I never watch the news.

I know what's going on in the world. It's called the internet. The news has way too much uselessshit that I don't care about, like the community lemonade stands or something else that's equally as dumb.

Exactly. I can't stand watching the news. It's absolutely nonsense for the most part. Newspapers, too.

  • I don't watch the news. I read a couple different papers and listen to NPR, but I hate actually watching the news.

I do have a hard time understanding people who don't want to know things because they're "too sad". Ignoring an issue doesn't make it less of an issue. I understand if they don't want to watch or read fiction movies or stories that are depressing, but you can't avoid reality.

Yeah, I had to stop watching the news on tv.  It was so hard to find something in the morning where I could get a quick summary of local and world issues without having to hear about Dancing with the Stars or American Idol.  Even if cared about those shows why would I need to hear about them on the news?

And 24 hour news channels drive me crazy especially when they're interviewing someone and have to cut them off because they're running out of time.  There's only news on the channel, let the person finish their thought!

Reading the news online is a much better option for me.

    THANK YOU!

t.v. news is full of drivel.  i always find myself saying, "that's not 'news'!"  meaning, that's not relevant!

i prefer reading the news via the internet...that way i have more control over the information i receive.

  • We had gone a very long time of not watching the news or reading a newspaper, it was really bad and I usually didn't know what was going on unless somebody posted about here or on FB. I don't remember what it was, but there was something that happened recently and when it came in discussion DH and I just looked at each other and shrugged, ever since I try to make sure that I at least watch the first half of the news every day.  I don't need to watch the sports segment (we watch ESPN) or the completely inaccurate weather, but at least I now know the major things going on... I do have to agree though, it's pretty depressing.

  • No.  Never.  I can't stand watching the news. Yes, I'm the person who thinks it's too sad.  I just don't want to hear about murders and car accidents and other sad things that don't effect me and that I can't help.

When there's a snow storm, I'll watch local news while I get ready for work to see if there are any roads to avoid.  Without fail, after about 5 minutes, I can't stand to watch the reporters any more.  I don't know if it's just our area, but the reporters seem dumb - especially the ones with the "puff pieces."  He's always had about 5 too many cups of coffee.

I know what's happening in the world - for topics I care about.  I see headlines online and I read what I want to know about.  DH fills me in on anything else that he thinks is important (he doesn't watch the news either but he reads the Sunday paper).

And, I get a lot of info from the monologue on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (we DVR every episode) and SNL. :)

  • I watch the Today show every morning and that's about it.

  • I'm one of those people who gets most of my news from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

But I usually have the CBS morning show on in the background when I'm getting ready for work, and I read various news sites on the internet.  Local news is maddening.
