OK... I don't get this. How do you, on the one hand, complain that everybody is all into your appearance over your substance... then, on the other, pose for Vogue???
Somebody, please to explain!

Nikki Haley is in Vogue
April 19, 2012 -- 3:19 PM
On a recent trip to Washington, South Carolina Gov.
Nikki Haley
voiced frustration about how much attention the media, and even
constituents, paid to her looks. "The thing that surprises me is how
much people won't let you forget what you look like," Haley said to an
audience at the American Enterprise Institute, telling stories about how
her shoe selection and
her choice to not wear earrings (she's allergic to metal) have become topics of discussion in the state.
But that didn't stop the Republican governor from appearing in the May issue of Vogue, arguably the world's most important fashion magazine. Posing for photographer Norman Jean Roy,
in one photo Haley looks glamorous surrounded by staffers. In the
other, she is standing on a dock, in white skinny pants and a belted
striped top. The profile doesn't break much new ground on the governor,
but it does do a good job of describing what she's wearing
(black-and-white ruffled jacket, black pencil skirt, and platform
stilettos), where she gets her clothes (her mother's clothing store) and
notes that she looks much younger in person than her 38 years.

Re: Nikki Haley in Vogue
Kirsten Gillebrand, Huma Abedin (Mrs. Weiner!!), Condolezza Rice, Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin (before she was the VP pick), Nancy Reagan, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, Nancy Pelosi...just a few of the women of politics that have been featured in Vogue. Yes, it's a fashion mag, but it's a lot broader than, say, Cosmo. It would be like calling Rolling Stone an entertainment magazine.
Here's a slideshow of some of the women they've covered.

Just to add...it seems Jon Huntsman thought they were worthy of his time as well. They profiled him when he was a candidate in the primaries.

Momi - you can certainly be annoyed people are paying too much attention to your looks and still do something like model/fashion shoot/looks related. I'm not sure why the two have to be mutually exclusive - like if you complain, you can't do ANYTHING that involves your looks? A lot of women read this magazine, I think it was a smart political move.
Also, Vogue has profiled a TON of political candidates, male and female.
I'm with KA on this one. Vogue has a history of profiling powerful women and women in politics. Sure, it's a fashion magazine, but it's on a whole different level than most fashion mags.
If she'd done Cosmo and given her advice on one of their millions of "50 Ways To Satisfy Your Man Using an Ice Cube," then okay, that's different.
