Do you like the look of ripped and/or distressed jeans?

Re: Yay or Nay: Ripped jeans?

  • I do but I don't think they're as much in style as they were a couple years ago
  • Nay. I think it looks sloppy.

  • Nah.  They remind me of trashy teenagers.

I don't know this kid or this monkey, but their side-eyes are strong.

  • I like the ones that look like they're ripped naturally.

Most of them end up looking so contrived, like the girl in the red shirt in your post. Those are a big nay from me.

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.
  • I don't like them.

I teach high school, and if my students wear it I tend to try to avoid it. (At least some of the more "teeny-bopper" trends.) I lump this in that category.

  • Ew, helll no.

  • Yay - I particularly like the 2nd pic you posted.
  • Yay! I like them. I don't have any but I think they're cool. I really like them in the first picture.

  • I like it but I think I'm too old for it.  I've seen it done badly by lots of middle-aged women around here and it always looks like they're trying too hard.

  • I like the look when done the right way. I think the 2nd and 4th pictures are styled well for a ripped jean look. I don't think that the other two are styled correctly.

  • I really like the second photo.  The others no.

  • Not at all for ripped.  Distressed, sometimes yes.
  • Nay. I never liked them.

Yay!  And I love all of the looks you posted busybodyk, but especially these two.  I have a few pairs and love them all.  I style mine like this a lot.  You just have to make it look easy and act like you don't care to really pull them off.  I also like the lighter distressed denim flares that are coming back this season.  My favorites that get the most compliments are Converse for Target ones from 2 seasons ago.
  • I do. Not in the last 2 photos though. The 2nd to last has weird distressing, looks like white stains, and the bottom one looks sloppy with the ill fitting top, horrible wash on the jeans, and some holes that look like bullet holes.

I like it when it's done right.

  • nope - wore them in the 80s (yes, dating myself) - but not a fan of them then or now.
  • Only if it is very subtle, and only on medium wash boyfriend fits. I don't own any, but I would possibly consider some barely distressed boyfriend roll cuff shorts. Tight denim with holes is eww.

  • I love the first two looks.
  • I like the second ones. The others have holes that are too big or those large areas of extreme distressing that look like too much to me. I like them on a medium-wash boyfriend fit jean, cuffed or not.

  • It's a yay for me, but also only to a certain extent. I don't mind a little of distressing/rips, but ones with gaping holes aren't for me.

I do have a pair of cutoff shorts that are pretty ripped and I always want the holes to be smaller.

  • I rarely wear a trend that I wore in my teen years, so no.

    Agree.

I like look #2 but now that I am in my late 30s I am very aware of women who look like they are trying to hard and the ripped jeans are one of those things. But I will say that these woman are usually wearing other things that make them look like they are trying to hard: graphic tees, ed hardy, true religion jeans, juicy couture, you get the picture.

  • I continue to wear jeans that I've worn to the point of ripping, but I don't buy them that way.
