Warm but festive for NYE?

I'd prefer to get out of the cold for a long weekend over New Years Eve . . . maybe F 12/28 to W 1/2

Has anybody ever spent NYE in the Carribbean?  What's it like?  Do people dress up?

We have cruised over NYE but the timing doesn't work out this year.

Any suggestions for someplace to go that won't break the bank.  We'd prefer to keep it under $3k.

TIA

  • Maybe Key West? I haven't been there on New Year's but their new year's parties are pretty famous. Instead of a ball, they drop a drag queen riding on a giant shoe and a conch shell. The attire there is pretty casual year round, but anything goes, so I am sure you could dress up if you wanted to.

I have visited in December before and the weather is great that time of year.

Whatever you decide, happy planning! A new year's vacation sounds fun!

  • we were in NOLA for 2012.  Awesome weather during the day (mid 70s for this Pittsburgh girl), chilly at night though.  we had an awesome time!

i am sure you know traveling during that week is expensive.  We tossed Aruba and PR around for 4 nights and we were looking at 4K when it it was all said and done.

  • We're going to Riviera Maya, Mexico - I've been once before during that time of year and we didn't have any problems with the weather.  I'm not expecting anything over the top for NYE, but maybe we'll dress up a bit more for dinner, do some dancing.

PP is correct that prices are high - we paid over $4k for non-stop flights from Chicago and 6 nights at an adults-only, all inclusive.  The price would have been about $400 less if we had done one stop.

Everywhere else I looked into was much more expensive.
