Cleaning Help!!!

Ok, I am a clutter bug! I don't so much hoard, but I do have a hard time getting rid of things. My house is cluttery and I need it clean, but am getting overwhelmed. What are some good, easy organizing tricks, motivation, making it fun, ect. ideas you have used??? Ready... GO!

Re: Cleaning Help!!!

  • I'm fairly cluttery myself too, and the best way I've found to tackle the clutter is just to take the time and go through methodically and practially and ask myself, do I really need this?  Is it worth the extra time it takes me to have to take items of a bookshelf, clean under and around everything?

I've gotten rid of a ton of stuff (nicknacks, pictures, baskets etc) because I realize that I just don't need it and it's more of a PITA to clean it than it's worth.

Just purging is going to make it instantly easier to keep things organized.

You should have a place for everything.  Mail, magazines, pens/pencils, stationery, books, etc.  Once everything has a home it's so much easier to put things away.  You don't run into spending an hour looking for the flashlight because you can't remember where you put it because it doesn't have a real home.

  • And if you just can't get rid of it now, box it up and date it a year from now. What you haven't used you obviously don't need, mostly. I find I do go back for one or two things on occasion. The rest goes.
  • I do need homes for a few more common things. Better organizing solutions, etc.

I love the box with a year expiration idea! Plus that way if I haven't gone back to the box, I won't even open it after the year, just throw it out. Perfect!
