Pressed vs. loose powder

I've pretty much always used pressed powder, but it seems like most girls on here use a loose finishing powder.  I've seen Tarte Smooth Operator powder mentioned a lot.  Do you use loose or pressed?  Why is that your preference?  If you use loose, do you carry a pressed powder in your handbag for touch ups?  What specific powder do you use?

Re: Pressed vs. loose powder

  • I use a pressed powder foundation only. I like the ease of it. Loose powder is just a bit more messy and I don't feel like the coverage or look is different.

I prefer loose in the morning because it's much faster to apply, plus I think it gives a much etter finish than pressed.  Right now I'm using Laura Mercier. I do carry a pressed Clinique compact in my purse for touch-ups during the day.

  • I use a loose powder. It's messier than pressed, but I really like the way it looks.

  • Loose.

I like Sonia Kushak or BE Mineral Veil.

I carry blotting paper for shine year round and MV in a trial size in hot weather.

  • I prefer pressed. It's neater and not as bulky in my makeup bag. I use Chanel, and have used both their pressed and their loose, and cannot notice an appreciable difference.

  • Loose for setting, pressed in the purse.

  • I like loose when I get ready, then pressed later if I want to touch it up.  I carry around Clinique's perfectly real in a pressed compact then my loose powder varies a lot- Mayha Minerals or Bare Minerals are both good choices.
