How do you get them stains out?

So I'm a slob and eat in the car frequently. My seat is all stained because it is impossible for me to eat without dropping stuff. Any ideas how to get them out?

FYI: Tide-to-go sticks don't work. They actually make more stains...

Re: How do you get them stains out?

  • I actually find that pouring an entire bottle of laundry detergent on the offending area gets a lot of stains out and it leaves your car smelling spring fresh for......well I did it 2 weeks ago and it still smells good.  But other than this I have no practical suggestions.

  • Maybe rent a carpet shampooer if it has an upholstery attachment? What kinds of seat coverings do you have?

... rent a carpet shampooer if it has an upholstery attachment?

Exactly. It cleans and sucks the old water/detergent back up through the machine.

You can rent one by the day at most grocery stores. Buy the detergent with the machine rental, too. Heck, you can even do a few rugs in your house, too.

My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.
  • Thanks! I'll have to try it out

The furniture attachment is awesome and works wonders (I have used it on futon pads and mattresses as well as upholstery and stairs), but it costs (at my grocery, anyway) something like $50 per day including those parts.

I had to laugh at your post though, because, while I have leather and so don't really have to worry about stains on my car upholstery, every pair of pants I own has a stain on the right thigh area where my iced tea spills when I make a turn.

  • I use carpet cleaner then once it's dried, I use my home vacuum to vacuum the seats, as well as the rest of my car.
  • I have created a paste with oxiclean (or you can do a solution so you don't have to rinse it off). Basically you scrub scrub scrub and then rinse. Something like this is easy in the car:

Have you considered washable car seat covers? I got my housemate some (because his job requires driving and often he is eating lunch in the car) and he loves them. You just stain treat those and throw them in the wash.

These are what I got him, and they are simple.
