Google stalking?

OK, I know what the term means and how to do it. However, if you have no last name - how do you go about getting that- just ask?

New to online dating (using match) so if this is a Ms. Obvious question feel free to point that out :)

Re: Google stalking?

  • I was wondering the same thing! How does everyone manage to Google stalk? It's not like I want to come right out and ask the guy his last name, kwim?
  • I'm really good at finding people online...call it a gift, if you will! For example, last week I was chatting with a guy who told me his first name, the city he worked and the type of work he did and with just that info I was able to find his last name, divorce records, home address and his facebook (as well as his ex-wife's).  I want to at least have access to court records before I agree to meet someone in person.

Depending on the size of the area you live, you can do some pretty easy detective work.  If you know his first name, you can search "first name" on Facebook and then choose "people" and you can narrow down the city he lives in and potentially find him there.  If he's got a really common name, that's harder.  If you have some idea of what he does, school he graduated from, etc. you can google "first name" and then whatever piece of info you have "school name".  If you put it in quotes, it searches your specific word(s).

ETA: At times, I do just ask for his last name and explain that I have kids and need to check court records before I move any futher.  I have yet to be denied that info and most of the guys have been okay with that.

  • In addition to what Doris said, you can also google their email address or their screen name. A lot of times they use their screen name for other stuff.

I found out some stuff about BF by googling the beginning of his email address (the stuff before the@).

  • I just ask their last name and if they ask why I say "I have more than one "John or whatever" in my phone".  People with nothing to hide, hide nothing

Ewww. I had to Google that. Gross.

I feel a little creepy Google stalking. It's totally worth it though. All this advice is working perfectly. I found both people I was looking for.
