Marco Island/Naples

Hi All!

We're looking for a relaxing beach vacation for the end of Sept. or beginning of October and I've been looking at Marco Island. As much as I'd like to think we'd enjoy the time just laying on the beach, enjoying our time away from the kids, I;m worried we'll get a little bored. Are their activities/things to do/see in the area? Any recommendations would be great!

Thanks!

Re: Marco Island/Naples

  • We stayed at the Marriott Marco Island Resort for a few nights. The resort is amazing!!! It is definitely on the top of my list as far as resorts go. Oceanfront properties are usually expensive, but I would not hesitate to spend the money to stay there again. We really just went to spend a few days on the beach and were perfectly content relaxing. One day we did take a tour on jet skis which was a lot of fun. They took us to these little islands that had amazing shells. We brought a ton of them back home with us and they now decorate our guest bedroom.

We went to Naples one night for dinner and walked around the shops a bit which was a nice night out too. We did drive around a bit, but the area was very quiet. Maybe because we went in May so it was a little before the season actually started. If you are just looking for a few days to unwind, I would definitely recommend the Marriott. If you can afford to stay there, you will not be disappointed.  I am sure someone else will chime in with other activities.

  • I haven't been to Marco in years so I don't have any relevant info.  DH and I stayed in Naples for a couple of nights last winter and it was just ok.  We were the youngest folks at our resort(if not the entire town) by at least 30 years, not much for activities other than shopping and eating(which or 2 of my favs) overall, we really didn't get an overwhelming "vacation" vibe.  We visit my snowbird parents every winter; Sanibel/Captiva/Ft Myers is more of our style; but we keep meaning to get down to Marco to check it out.

  • The Marco Marriott is spectacular, like the other poster said, but I didn't find Marco itself to be that great.

We plan to go back someday, with the kids, because they have a great kid pool (great adult pool also).  Beach is fantastic. But I'd go and take the kids.

If I were you, I'd look into another area if you want a little more excitement.
