Monday Monday

How's everyone doing on this (here gloomy) Monday morning? As usual I am having a pretty bad case of the Mondays. Trying to remedy it by seemingly useful things as reading and listening to the news and doing laundry. Have to work on my dissertation but for Mondays I always have the rule that I don't have to work on it for hours on end. Easing into things... This weekend was fun. I watched both Waking Ned Devine and the Princess Bride with my husband and did chores around the house. I also did some research on a vacation in Sicily. Now back to responsibilities ;)

Re: Monday Monday

  • It was grey and raining here -- off and on heavy rain and night-dark skies all day.  I stayed in and organized my books, read some and caught up on some tv shows.

In good news, DH and his dad are on speaking terms and it has been decided that everyone will go to the funeral and I'll stay home and dog- and cockatoo-sit (which is what I'd rather do anyway).  It's good that the situation was resolved, but I fear the fight may have lasting effects on the relationship between DH and his dad.

And, my older brother was told he has a work assignment in Mumbai and will be there for 10 days in May.  My mother is going bonkers-crazy, calling me nearly every hour to tell me how dangerous it is for him to be in India -- which would be annoying if it weren't for the fact that she keeps telling me that every fresh-water parasite known to man is in Nile.  She is not at all phased when I ask in all seriousness "Mom, where is the Nile?"

  • See my other post.  I'm pretty close to giving myself a heart attack.
  • I went for Run # 2 today well before the rain started. Yay!

However, the computer program I use for work is on the fritz and I've had a very annoying morning because of it. I have shed many tears of frustration and think I might shut down soon and try to focus on something else.

  • This was actually an awesome Monday.

I went to the Chiro, got a mani/pedi, and went to see Octopus.

I woke up in Antibes and there she was. Yesterday H came home and told me she was in port so now I've seen her on two continents.

And H ran into a really cool potential job for me.  So I have updated the CV and will drop it of tomorrow.

  • We've had an exhausting week end, running around and ordering things for the new place. We also worked late Saturday night and waking up early on Sunday was awful. I can't take anymore packing and boxing, I want to move already! The neighbours are going to be so happy they won't have to listen to any more Opera ;)

On a very bright side, the day that I shed all Ikea from my existence has finally arrived! We have a new Pottery Barn sofa and we also treated ourselves to new bedding and accent pillows. YAY! We also finally decided on the colors for the walls but being the new couch a kind of caramel/goldish tone I have to rethink the living/dining room's color scheme.

It's been raining cats and dogs here (my hair is in full frizz mode) making everything harder, and what do you know it's supposed to rain on the day of the move, a classic.

Today is going to be about work :)

  • Dorothy, your mom not knowing where the Nile is made me giggle.

Today we're officially trying to start our routine of both getting up with DD and me working on my dissertation for 5 hours, which we hope to continue for the entirety of our stay here in the US. I'm off to a good start by nesting, huh? ;-)

  • I had surgery and general anesthesia so I'm feeling a bit tired and loopy.  I haven't been able to drink for a while so this is the closest thing to being tipsy in ages...lol.

  • I'm sick. I hardly left our bed yesterday. Now I'm debating if I should get dressed and head to the Minute Clinic or a walk in clinic. It's a chest and head cold maybe have a fever too. This totally sucks.

I hope you get well soon!!!! Sending good post-surgery vibes your way.

I remember when I got my appendix removed and woke up during surgery. Every time I tell the story people tell me that that's their #1 nightmare. Can't blame them, it kinda was a nightmare honestly.

The exact same thing happened to me. I have never met anyone else that has happened too.

I woke up during my wisdom teeth surgery (under general) and during a colonoscopy (not really a full general, but you're definitely supposed to be out). When talking to the anesthesiologist who was doing my prep before my c/s she asked if I had ever had any complications from anesthesia. I said no but that I had woken up both times I had been under. She went IndifferentTongue Tied "Um, that's a pretty serious complication." For some reason I had thought it was kind of normal...

ETA: The spinal for my c/s went perfectly, though. I've heard horror stories on TB of women who could completely feel their c/s and the OB/anesthesiologist didn't believe them. That terrifies me.

  • I'm sorry it happened to you two as well! I'd rather not have this in common with anyone :(

My body refuses to get anesthetized. As I mentioned before, I woke up in the middle of the appendix surgery and the time that I got my premolars removed the gas wouldn't work either. The first time I remember registering that I was in fact awake but couldn't speak so I tried moving my fingers and the people around me were like "crap this one's awake!" The second time the doctor kept giving me gas and asking if I felt any tingling in my hands... I was like "not yet... hmm, not yet... nope, not yet..." it went on for a while. They wouldn't let MH stay in the room so that made me extra alert.

kelly, you just gave another huge a$$ reason to not have c/s. (In my mind I still have power over that decision, but I guess one really can't say, ugh :/)
