Disney help

I am looking into Disney World in October with my 3 year old son. We are thinking of staying 4 nights and devoting 3 days to parks. What are the must do's for his age?

My plan is to do Downtown Disney the day we arrive and spend the next three days in the parks. I plan on getting the hopper passes.

Also what moderate resort would you recommend? I looked a little at Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans and Coronado Springs.

Thanks

There is so much to do - is FantasyLand open yet?

What is your son into?  We did at least one character meal a day.  Our kids really loved Hollywood Studios, there was so much!  My son *who is 5* loved the Car stunt show, The Star Wars ride, the Toy Story rides were always a hit there too

This past year we stayed at Port Orleans and were really happy with it.  We were close to the pool and entrace so it was nice...but the resort is HUGE and we were also near the boat that took us to Downtown.  My inlaws booked the trip so they chose the hotel, pretty sure that was the only one left except a All Star where we were originally staying but then their travel agent told them it was pop warner week in that hotel so they switched.  We were happy there, no complaints  The time before we stayed at the Dolphin Hotel - i LOVED that one, when we go next year we'll probably stay there again or try for the Boardwalk area.  We love it over there, especially late night after the rides/parks we walk around the boardwalk, play the games and watch the street performers...good way to end the nights

  • Are your dates flexible?  If you check in by September 28th you can get the dining plan for free.  Also, the food and wine festival at Epcot starts that same weekend so regardless of when in October you are going, be sure to plan some time in Epcot for that!  I would try to spend some time in each park.  I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old and there are things they love in each park.  Of course there is plenty for your son in the Magic Kingdom- especially in Fantasyland, and be sure to catch all of the parades and the fireworks as well.  In Epcot Test Track will be closed (boooo) but my kids love Soarin, Figment, and Nemo.  At Hollywood Studios, they love the Playhouse Disney Show and Fantasmic at night.  And at Animal Kingdom they also love the parade, the Lion King show, and Finding Nemo the musical.

Port Orleans French Quarter is the smallest and easiest to get around of all the moderate resorts.  Caribbean Beach has the best pool though, if you think you will spend any time there (zero depth entry, water cannons, water fall, etc.)  Coronado springs is huge and bit more expensive so that would probably be my last choice.

  • As far as moderates go, we have only stayed a Port Orleans and it was a while ago. It's a really nice hotel. Next month we are staying at Caribbean Beach. The reason why I picked it is b/c my DS (2 y/o) is really into pirates right now and the kids pool area is a pirate ship. Big Smile We didn't get a pirate room, b/c they are kind of far from the main area, but may change our minds when we get there.

Hollywood Studios- My DS loves the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show and the Toy Story Ride. Make sure you get a Fast Pass to Toy Story as SOON as you get in the park.

Epcot- Finding Nemo, and the "meet the character's" spot in Epcot is actually my favorite to meet the characters since you wait in one line to meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto and Goofy one right after the other. Everything is inside in the AC, and there are TV's all around with old Mickey cartoons to distract the kids.

AK- The Safari ride is great. Again, make this either the first ride you go on, or get the fast pass first. Character spot is okay.

MK- Everything in Fantasyland and hopefully parts of the new Fantasyland will be open in October! Pirates of the Caribbean, Monster's Inc Laugh Floor, Buzz Lightyear ride (different from Toy Story ride in HS).

Bring your own stroller and a backpack instead of a Diaper bag with lots of snack and water. Have fun!

  • As far as resorts - I would stay FAR away from Caribbean! Buses are awful and the resort is HUGE!
