I had Sunday afternoon off, so I went to the mall to buy some spring clothes. It ended up being a futile trip - why is everything so BAD right now? At what point did everyone who mass-produces clothing get together and determine that women want elastic-banded waists? I don't know about you, but I don't enjoy wearing clothes that make me look like I'm 20 lbs. heavier.
This? This is not flattering, especially on an apple shape such as myself.

This? Even worse. It's bad when the model looks like a box.

(Both of these examples are from Loft, where I used to covet every item of clothing...yesterday I walked the whole store but didn't find a single thing I wanted to try on.)
I want to talk about the travesty that is workout wear too, but maybe I'll save that for another post.
Where are you shopping these days? What articles of clothing make you see red?
Re: Let's talk about fashion
I just ordered a maxi dress with an elastic empire waist. I hope it doesn't look terrible. If it weren't an empire waist I could add a belt. But I agree, I prefer a solid waistband instead of elastic. I do have a waistline though, so I do like to emphasize it if possible.
I detest all of the sharkbite hemlines. I've found quite a few cute tops only to realize they have a sharkbite hemline and that kills it for me. I guess on someone younger it would be okay, but not for someone my age.
Also, there are a lot of horizontal stripes out there. Why oh why Lane Bryant do you think fat girls want to wear horizontal stripes? Why would we want to look fatter than we already are?!
Morty - I hear you on the stripes. Stripes make people look bigger!
Bowies, besides the not finding any clothes, did you enjoy your day off?
Ohhhh yes! I almost didn't know what to do with myself. I ended up buying some curtains at JCP, so if all else fails, I can always pull a Scarlett O'Hara.
I've been shopping a lot at H&M and can always find good work shirts and dresses there (no pants, because I'm too short for them).
I can usually find at least one thing to buy at Limited, though, and left emptyhanded last weekend. I'm too short for many of the things that they have at the moment (drapey/loose tops, for example...they make me look like the shirt is swallowing me).
I actually lost a few pounds recently (17) and thought it would make finding clothing easier, and it seems like it's getting harder!

I'm picturing Carol Burnett's version, complete with curtain rods.
H&M has been full of those stupid boxy tops lately too. They are horrid.
