My Shark steam mop crapped out on me after about a year and a half of weekly use. Our last house was tiny, so the mop should have lasted way longer than that and I'm not willing to purchase another Shark to see if it craps out just as easily.
I'm also not impressed with the job my housekeeper is doing. First world problems, man.
The flooring I need it to clean is Duraceramic (looks like ceramic tile, has little divots and such) and some fake wood Pergo type stuff. Obviously, with three dogs, I need something that will keep up. Any suggestions? Hoover Floormate? Haan steam mop? I'm kind of desperate. I was using a traditional mop and bucket for weekly mopping and getting on my hands and knees with a scrub brush once a month before I got the housekeeper.
Re: Suggestions for hard floor cleaner?
I have the housekeeper use Mrs. Myers too because her Pine Sol was giving Rudi an allergic reaction. I think she's lacking elbow grease, and I physically can't do it myself.
My Bissell carpet shampooer (I think it's the same one you were looking at a while back) says it'll do hard floors, but it leaves them so wet. Maybe I'll try it just to see if the bristles can get up the dirt, then skate around on towels to dry the floor.
Just don't fall! Also let me know if it works I might do that too. So far the Mrs. Myers and the microfiber pad on my mop is doing a good job.
I have the Shark steam mop too and I feel like it doesn't do a decent job. I constantly have streaks on my faux hardwood floors and the babe is filthy after crawling on the fresh cleaned floors. I do not suggest you skating around on towels.
What kind of crud are you trying to clean off the floors? General dirt or like dried on dog drool? I'm tempted to start using a sponge mop with super hot water and vinegar and letting it air dry. I just have general dirt from foot traffic, if you have dog drools and such you're going to need some more elbow grease.
Yeah, you're going to need something heavy duty...I'm surprised you saw results with the steam mop. I know I've seen a scrubbing/steam mop sort of thing but I can't think of it off the top of my head. I'll do some Googling.
I use the Shark so I'm no help there. But I did just see this pop up on my Pinterest. I cleaned my microfiber couch with rubbing alcohol so I can easily see it working on floors too.

As luck would have it, MIL sent H money to buy me a birthday gift, and being the impatient lady I am, I got a Hoover FloorMate from Target.
Keep in mind I pay a housekeeper to mop every Monday, so this is a full week of dog dirt on top of the fact that she hasn't been doing a very good job mopping. I swear I'm not a dirty person. I wear house shoes inside the house and leave my boots and sneakers at the door.
This hallway is 10' long.
After one pass, this is what happened:
And you can see the strip that's been done compared to the rest of the tile:
Cons: The solution tank is super tiny, so we had to refill after just that 10' hallway, and I know that could get annoying with our house full of hard floors, and it's way louder than any of our vacuums. The sound is enough to make the fetuses go crazy.
Even without using the "dry" function, it does such a good job sucking up water that the floor was dry within a couple minutes. I think I'm giving my housekeeper two weeks notice tomorrow. These last two weeks I asked her to skip cleaning our downstairs living area and to spend that extra 45 minutes focusing on the upstairs floors and it seems she just can't keep up.
Oh heavens to Betsy.
There's no way this was properly mopped less than a week ago.
Thank you!
It's late here, so I'm leaving the kitchen half done like that picture above. Housekeeper comes tomorrow and I'm curious to see if that line becomes any less noticeable.
It's so lightweight that carrying it up and down the stairs isn't an issue. I'm not even allowed to carry my vacuum up the stairs because it's too heavy (why I needed a housekeeper in the first place) but the floor scrubber isn't an issue for me.
I decided against giving her two weeks. She comes tomorrow and I left her a note that says we won't need her anymore after tomorrow.
Holy hell! Yeah she definitely doesn't deserve two weeks notice. I wouldn't count on her cleaning the house today though.
I know it. I have a meeting a block from my house during the time she's supposed to be there, so at least I'll know if she's there or not. The clean side of the kitchen now passes the white sock test, so I'm pretty psyched.
