Mother's Day...

What is everyone getting their mom? If you are a mom, what gifts have you received in the past? Just curious. I am having a gifting mental block lately.

Re: Mother's Day...

  • My moms birthday is may 14 (near mothers day) so we have double duty.

For mothers day though i will have food basket or flowers sent because I don't live near her anymore. I get an arrangement with a reuseable item such as a mug or basket.

  • For MIL, I am thinking about getting her a calorie burning tracer like bodybugg or similar, she is trying to lose weight and counting calories, but she doesn't know how much she is burning off during her activities.

For my mom, I thinking about getting her a nice decorative table top, she entertains a lot and can use all sorts of big bowls, trays, etc.

  • My siblings and I usually take our mom out to dinner the night before and chip in on a gift. We got her a Kate Spade bag this year, purchased with the FF discount. There are 5 of us so when we pool together we can get something pretty good:)

  • I was thinking of getting my mother broadway tickets this year.  She loves seeing shows and also then we get to spend the day together when we see the show. Last year I gave her a GC for a facial and massage. In past years I've also gotten her a few pairs of fun sneakers like Coach or she loves Kenneth Cole and Puma.  When all else fails I know she always loves a sterling silver piece of jewelry, usually a bangle.

  • Thanks ladies! Uh! I used to get her a cute pair of summer shoes and a mani pedi. It because sort of a tradition and she always looked forward to it.  My mom lost one of her legs in August in a car accident so I think this year will be difficult for both of us which is why I think I am struggling this year. Crying

Pitty, party of 1. You're table is ready.

  • I am so sorry for what she has gone thru. If you want to stay beauty related, may be you can get her a facial and set of new make up, or gift card to her salon for a haircut and color.

Another idea would be a maid service.

Oh the maid service is SUCH a good idea!!

So sorry to hear about your mom's accident, but I'm glad she's okay! This could be way off base, but would it be weird for you to get her a cute shoe still - to kind of keep things the same in that respect? My grandpa had a leg amputated and my mom always gave him slippers for father's day and still did after the surgery - just the one shoe. If that makes either of you uncomfortable though, by all means just stick to a completely separate gift.

In the past I've given my mom a wide range of gifts - I think last year I gave her a set of lip glosses from Clinique and some perfume that she likes. I get her pajama sets a lot and she also loves those little lip mints from VS so I throw those in on occasion.

  • My MIL has been saying she would like new dishes.  She's always loved the PB Emma set I have but never wants to spend the money on them.  I think I'm going to try and convince DH that we should get them for her.

My birthday is on May 14th too and I'm doubtful I'll get anything.  We need to replace the fence so I guess that'll be my present since I've been bugging DH for the last year that it needs to get done.

I wish I liked my MIL this much.

  • I got my mom a hammer metal necklace and we are ordering flowers for mil (she is single so doesn't get them often)

  • I just sent my siblings a text this morning about this! I think we may get her a Pandora bracelet. There is 6 of us, so pooling our money gets a better gift. She is hard because if she wants something, she will buy it.

In the past, we have gotten her things from William Sonoma (she re-did her kitchen and got new dishes so I got her matching serving pieces/a new all-clad skillet/unique bakewear/aprons), a Kate Spade purse, a Coach purse, Vera Bradley tote, Lilly Pulitzer scarf, shoes, gift card for the manicure place she goes to.

As for my MIL, probably nothing. I will buy gifts and DH never takes them over.

  • I'm going to a Stella & Dot party this weekend so I might get her something there.

She's retiring this year after 35 years of teaching, so I'm planning a big spa day for the two of us in June (so I'll probably go "light" on the mothers day gift).

  • My mom's top choice is spending time with us, so my sister & I are taking her on a little weekend getaway this weekend. (The weekend of actual Mother's Day I'm doing a race). We won't get her an actual gift, but we will cover all the meals on the trip & hang out Friday-Sunday. She's *extremely* excited about it. Smile
  • Oh, & my husband typically gets me some variant of these ideas: gift card to the spa for a massage/pedicure, flowers, cupcakes, or new workout clothes from lululemon. (Not all of these - just one or maybe one from each of the kids.)

I was thinking the same exact thing!

  • My sis and I will be taking our mom for brunch and a massage.

I have gotten anything from flowers, perfume, jewelry, g/c for B&BW, a spa treatment, a weekend getaway...quite a variety of things.

Just celebrated 6 blessed wedded years! 9.24.06
