Back to square one and a running ?

This is my first time posting over here..so HI!

Last year at this time, DH and I decided to start watching our calories and working out.  We did MFP and 30 DS and I went from 162 to 135 in about 4 months.  Long story short, the working out and eating well went by the way side in October when I started a new job.  I'm trying to get back and find my motivation again, but it's hard.  I weighed 151 this morning. Crying.  I worked out 5 days this week, but didn't do very good on my eating this weekend.  I'm just so frustrated with myself.  I'm mad that I put some of th weight back on.  I'm mad that I took all that hard work I did and threw it away.  I'm having a hard time staying focused and I hate it!!  I guess I'm just looking for some encouragement.  I feel like this is the cycle of my life.  I don't know why I can't just stick with it.  The bright side is I'm still 10lbs down from where I was, but that doesn't help much.

At any rate, I have also started running.  I run a little over 3 miles most days and run about an 11:20 min mile.  My question is, should I work to run farther, or get my 3 miles faster?

  • "This is the story of my life" is probably a statement alot of us can relate to, I know I can.

I'm still working at this myself, but I'm pretty sure the difference between yo-yo weight loss and gain vs. keeping a consistent healthy weight is pure commitment and discipline. Nobody is going to do it for you, you have to make it happen. It is hard work but you have to just stay focused.

Also to answer this question, its purely up to what you'd rather see improve. Without really aiming to, I had started working on distance for probably good year and half then decided I needed to step up my pace. So you could either do that or work on establishing a pace you want and then gradually work on increasing distance.

What is your goal?  To lose weight?  Then run further.  To start doing races and improving your time? Then run faster *and* further.

  • Keeping my eating in check is always my biggest challenge. Being down 10lbs is a bright side! Be proud of what you accomplished before and know that you can do it again!

For running, I just recently started and my pace isn't much above yours. Right now, I'm running pretty much the same distance (same path) every time, and just trying to get faster and "better" at it before I try to tackle longer distances.

I'm here a lot, you just don't see me cuz I can't post from my phone :)AlternaTickers - Cool, free Web tickers
  • I think it will all come together for you again if you give it some time.  When I am working out hard, my eating sort of comes together on it's own - I think once I realize I can easily undo all my hard workouts with a few pieces of pizza or whatever, I become more mindful.  I try to allow myself to slack a bit too - a bowl or ice cream or a few cookies isn't the end of the world, but a spoon digging right into the carton or a whole package of cookies is not so good!

I would keep running at that pace until it starts to feel too easy (you will see a difference) and then start adding mileage or working on speed. (the order of importance would depend on your goals).  GL!!!
