A 'confession' for TIP about why I don't meal-plan

(because, hey, I've been busy and it's been slow around here--actually, now that I've typed this out, it sounds AWWwww-y.  sorry.)

I ought to plan better , but the #1 reason I don't meal plan is that at least 1x per week, my dad cooks for me.  So that leaves only 3 days where I"m working...make 1 of those be something fast (pancakes/hot dogs/whatever) and 1 be one of my 'go to' meals, and it's not worth the time.

I feel like I should not let dad do this, because it's awfully 'damnit, GBCK, live as a grown up!" of me...but on the day when they watch Buffy (1x per week), I arrive and they had me a bathed, PJed, fed, ready for bed Buffy and a warm dinner that's packed up in an insulated bag so that the Mr. and I can eat it as soon as I get home and Buffy is in bed.

My dad says he has to cook anyhow and he's lousy at cooking for 2...but on days when they've been to busy/whatever to cook, I'll arrive and they'll have bought me a hot and ready pizza or rotissary chicken to take home to eat.  so it's obviously not just him 'over-cooking'.

On some level, it's 'awww, so spoiled' but on another, I do feel guilty.  (I *HAVE* told them they don't have to...but I have also told them I appreciate it :)

  • I don't think you should feel guilty. I think it's really sweet of them!

  • When I was on leave, my stepmother made us SO MUCH FOOD that I pretty much didn't have to cook - ever.  And then even once I went back to work - I think I went another 3 months of rarely having to cook.  She would make meals for just her and my dad - and there were always leftovers, so we got them.

For basically 6 months, they basically kept their 38 year old daughter fed!

    Don't knock it. :)

  • You are spoiled! How adorable of your dad. I love that they have it all packed and ready to go for you.
I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns

  • I see nothing wrong with this at all. I think it is awesome that your dad is so thoughtful to send food home for both YOU and your H.

  • I wouldn't feel guilty. I eat with my parents several times a week. They watch P for me 3 days a week and usually ask if I want to stay for dinner. More often than not, I say yes.
  • That is so cute!

    I vote don't feel guilty!

    Oh, FFS.
  • Um, we go to my parent's house (almost) every Sunday for dinner.  On weeks where my FI is traveling, my mom invites me and my DS over for dinner.  She usually sends leftovers home with us.  She blames it on it being too hard to cook for just two people so she has to share.

I know better and I'll be the first to admit that I am spoiled.  My FI tells me all of the time that they spoil me.  I'm the oldest of 2 and he's the youngest of 6.  We'll never understand the other one's place in their family. Although, he benefits from me being spoiled because now they also spoil him.
