need opinions (WR!)

DH and I just got an invite for a wedding that he is in this summer, and they have the menu options printed on the RSVP. The options are either Steak or Chicken. The problem is DH and I are both vegetarian. Neither of us are all "everyone has bow down to our dietary preferences" or anything but I'm not really sure how to respond... I don't want them to "waste" money on a steak or chicken breast for us you know? usually if there was fish we would pick that (because I occasionally eat it and DH would just eat the sides). DH is in the wedding (and has been veggie for a while which the groom is aware of, but I'm guessing they just weren't thinking about that when they planned it - which is fine, it's not our day - it's theirs) so I was thinking he could bring it up casually with the groom but I'm just not sure...I don't want to cause "drama" because I remember being on the other side. We would do just fine eating the sides (they don't need to scramble for a veggie option for us or anything) and all that but again I'd hate for them to waste the money.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Re: need opinions (WR!)

  • There you are, Becca Smile  It has been a while; I've missed seeing you around!

I'd just see if your DH can bring it up casually and just make sure he lets them know that you all are perfectly fine just eating sides and that you didn't want them to spend money on a steak/chicken since you all wouldn't be eating it.  If it were my wedding, I'd appreciate someone telling me ahead of time instead of wasting the food.  Who knows, it may be super easy for them to ask for a vegetarian dinner.

You could also just put a little note in with your rsvp letting them know which I wouldn't have given a side eye to while I was planning if someone did that.

  • With DH being in the wedding, I think maybe he could just ask the groom which is the less expensive option.  Since you won't be eating the meat, you might as well give them the courtesy of getting the less expensive dish.  Just make it clear that you don't want anything special, just to save them some cash if possible.

  • Thanks guys, this is a great idea and even better that I can just have DH deal with it. :)

Xan - good to be back - things have been a little crazy, we recently closed and moved into a house and all that and work has been a little nuts. Hopefully i'll be around some more now. :)

    you got it :)

  • One of our groomsmen was a vegetarian.  We just let the reception hall know.  I would just add a little note to the rsvp to let them know.  Most venues have an option but it isn't one of the main choices...it is as needed.
