I've always had long hair, and I am a master with fancy up-dos. I can twist and pin like my life depended on it..... but I don't know how to make my hair look good down! It's about shoulder length with layers (I posted about getting it cut a few months ago)... but I don't know what to do with it!
If I blow dry it, all my natural body disappears and it looks limp, same if I straighten in. If I let it dry with my natural waves, they are uneven. Help? I don't know if I need different products or just need to acquire new skills. I pull it up constantly because it looks so lifeless down.
Re: How to style hair!
I'm a fan of velcro rollers for volume, and mousse. my hair is just past shoulder length with lots of layers. wavy and fine, but lots of it. (just to give an idea) and I'm from Texas, so I like volume.
after I towel dry my hair, I apply mousse to just the roots of my hair at the crown. I use Aquage Uplifting Foam, that's my favorite. I also apply Its A 10 Miracle leave in treatment to my ends for moisture and to protect them from heat. I blow dry my hair upside down with my fingers until it is mostly dry, then I use a brush to straighten out the ends a bit. after it's completely dry, I roll the crown of my head in large velcro rollers (about 2 inches in diameter), then blast them with the hair dryer for about 20 seconds each. I let that set while I do my makeup. after my makeup is done, I straighten the bottom layers with my flatiron, then take out the rollers. there is a LOT of volume at first. I then hit the ends only (not the crown) with the flatiron to take out some of the curl. after that, it's done!
my method is a combination of the following tutorials:

It's hard for me to put that much effort into blowdrying, too. Same with curls. It looks awesome when I curl it, but adding an hour to my morning sounds like hell. I think I'll try the root rollers that were recommended.

Do you wear a shower cap on days 2-3?
