traveling for a race - question
I am going to Indy for a girl's weekend/half marathon in Sept. and the race is at 730am on Saturday - is it a bad idea to travel on Friday...my kids go back to school before Labor Day this year and I have to be here on Friday for preschool and kindergarten orientation day. The earliest I can leave in Friday afternoon.
It is not an option to miss orientation at the kid's school but it is an option to opt out of running the race and cheer for my friend while she runs. What would H&F do???

Re: traveling for a race - question
the travel on friday wouldn't bother me, how far is it? But I would be concerned about having to get your race packet by a certain time.
I do think that race expos on Fridays (race on Saturday) tend to stay open later, but that would be my only worry.
why are you worried about travelling on Friday for a Saturday race? not getting enough sleep that night? not picking up your bib in time? something elses?
I like to arrive the day before when I travel for races but it's not mandatory (unless you have to pick up your bib). if that's when you can leave, that's when you leave. life happens,yo.
OK, thanks everyone. My friend lives in Indy so she can pick up packets for both of us. I just don't travel much these days so I forget what it's all about!!!! In a perfect world I would probably leave earlier in the morning and get in early afternoon, but I can't make that work so it looks like I will have to leave in the late afternoon and get in around 9pm. Race starts at 730am so I guess I'll go right to bed when I arrive
or you can get started with your girls weekend and have a cocktail with your girlfriend and THEN go to bed when you arrive. it'll help you sleep.
i like the way you think!!!!!
funny that you say that though b/c we don't actually care too much about the race but thought it should be the one productive thing we do that weekend
Well duhhhh, you're from RI. Halfway across the state, ie ten minutes, is an arduous journey
I assume you're coming for the Women's Half Marathon? Awesome! It was a really fun race last year. Prepare for it to be hot -- as Labor Day weekend usually is. I think the heat caused many women to just go out and enjoy the race rather than trying to PR.
And the best part... at the finish there's beer AND mimosas AND bloody marys. For free! Just get in line over and over, and you can keep drinking.
