NPCER: Where do you buy your toddler's shoes?

B seems to have inherited my ginormous feet. He's now in a size 6.5 (stride rite..fluctuates between a 7 and 8 for other brands).  And they're fast growing - 3 months ago he was a size 5. *dies*

Anyway, I can only afford to buy Stride Rite so often.  Right now he has a pair of tennis shoes and a pair of nice brown ones.  I'd like to find a pair of black ones.  Maybe a sport sandal.

Target has crappy selection.  Kohl's isn't that much better.

Rules: No characters, no lighting up, etc..

Re: NPCER: Where do you buy your toddler's shoes?

  • JCPenney for a lot of them, or payless. The payless 'smart fit' are VERY close to stride rites IMO.

  • Payless. Rack Room Shoes. Sears. Shoe Carnival.

Rack Room and Shoe Carnival often have BOGO sales.

  • Payless for sure. great prices and pretty good quality/selection.

  • I'm a huge fan of pedipeds and see Kai run...they're not quite as pricey as stride rite, equal if not better quality, and you can often find them on sale for $20-25 bucks a pair.

Payless is another option, but I prefer shoes that are built for early walkers until 2.5 years or so...

Oooo...Nordstrom Rack usually has awesome selections for kid shoes.

  • Stride Rite. My boys basically only have 1 pair of shoes at time. (no dress up shoes, just sneakers... that's why I have classy pictures of them in suits with sandals)

I always mis-measure when I've tried to buy them shoes in the past at Target/Payless etc.

  • I buy my kids' shoes from payless and zulily. But honestly, I think you might be SOL. The less expensive the shoes, the less plain they are. So I think you're either going to have to deal with a less than attractive shoe or a more expensive one.

    Chuck Taylors are classic though.

  • Online sites, whichever has the best deal, and ebay.
A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.
  • KA - those were two brands a friend of mine suggested ages ago but I couldn't remember!  Thank you!  See Kai Run has a cute pair of black ones on sale for $20.

Payless. Of course.  It's one of the few places I can buy shoes for myself....

I do wish we had resale shops near us but there are none.  I'd have to make special trips to all of them.

I just can't believe he went up 1.5 sizes in 3 months.  Even if I had him measured just before a growth spurt in Jan and then just after one this April it's just ridiculous.  *shakes head*

  • Stride Rite Outlets - I just got 2 pairs of sandals (real leather -white) for 19.99  each.  If you check out their website - will have your local outlet by zip code.  (In NY - Woodbury Commons).

Also... Marshall's.  You can find brand name (New Balance, Nike) sneakers for 10.00 - 15.00.  Since your son's feet are growing so fast be sure to "stock-up" on larger size sneakers for him to grow into when you see a great deal.  My girls wear sneakers year round.

Both of these stores you have to sort through and really look - but it is worth the savings.  Good Luck!

    :)

  • Savers, Goodwill, thrift stores.  Shoes are often in good to great condition, broken in, and make my budget happy.

  • So *that's* where my kid's foot size went! She just grew into 4s.

I've had good luck with Zulily and ebay. I scored a pair of Kai's that looked new for $10. The Payless near me sucks nuts in terms of non-fug selection in sizes that small. Marshalls and Ross are hit or miss, but when you hit you usually score big. They're worth a gander.

  • Ditto Marshall's and Ross. I got a cute pair of pink and white nikes for the girl for $19. They're hit or miss with selection but worth a look.

  • We mostly do stride rite for earlier walkers. I've also done chuck taylors. I also do no light up, no characters. I finally did cave on glitter, but it has to be "tastefully" glittery (i.e. no rhinestones or big glitzy things, but a layer of glitter over a solid color is fine). I always always always do outlet prices and usually find buy one get one 1/2 off sales. I've been known to get 4 pairs of shoes (1 sneakers, 1 sandals/dress shoes per kid) for $60 with stride rite outlet sales.

  • I keep buying my neice the most adorable shoes at the consignment store. Usually they have hardly any wear at all, a couple times they looked brand new. She's had cute little cowboy boots in every size so far, usually not more than $7 a pair. But also some great little sneakers, and clogs, and sandals too. I'm pretty sure I'm turning her into a little Carrie Bradshaw actually. I never knew a 2 year old could be so excited over new boots, lol.
  • See Kai Run, Livie & Luca, Chucks, Pediped...

I mostly buy online from places like endless, amazon and shoes.com.  Or nordstrom and piperlime.  They frequently have deals, sales, coupon codes to make the brands I like less expensive.

  • Stride Rite Outlet & Nordstrom Rack are where we got Bean's shoes that fit your criteria (and he has huge Hobbit feet).  He has a pair of sneakers (all things that you don't want... character, light-up, Walmart.  Now that it's warmed up, he hasn't been wearing them.  They make his feet hot.), 2 pairs of Toms (his everyday/ play shoes), and a pair of dress shoes (which he has outgrown & we need to replace).

  • Stride Rite because her foot is so wide. We spend about $50 every other month for her shoes. Fun times.
  • Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack.

We're lucky that we live really near where See Kai Run are headquartered, and they do a humungous warehouse sale once a year (like, you have to wait in line for like an hour to get in, humungous)... but the deals are amazing. We missed last years, but the year before we got 2 pair of boots and 5 pair of shoes for just over $100, amazing. The girl is STILL wearing shoes we got at that sale.

Also, our local consignment store sells new shoes at decent prices... the kids just got their summer sandals from them... they picked identical shoes, in identical colors. These, to be exact:

The next time you think I'm imposing hippieness on them, remember THEY picked them out.

Anyway, they were like 25, 30 bucks (different prices for the littles) and they're Keens (so, comfy) and the waterproof kind. Nice.

The Girl is 5. The Boy is 2. The Dog is 1.

  • Sears.  Last summer I got DD a plain white pair of sandels that lasted all summer.  They never rubbed weird and took quite the beating.  I loved them so much I went back this year and found the updated version of the same pair. Best part - $12. :-)

Kirkette, have you tried see Kai run?  My oldest had super wide feet until about a year ago, and those were the only shoes we bought because they were wide enough.
