Manitou Springs/Manitou Incline/Barr Trail/Pike's Peak/Garden of the Gods/Cog Railway?

Anyone do any of these?

Re: Manitou Springs/Manitou Incline/Barr Trail/Pike's Peak/Garden of the Gods/Cog Railway?

  • We did Pike's Peak and Garden of the Gods in the same day, they are pretty close to each other. Didn't do the Cog Railway.
  • I have done all of these except the Manitou Incline.  Manitou Springs is a cute little town with lots of boutique shops and restaurants.  They have an arcade area with tons of old arcade games you can check out. There are also a few souvenir shops. My dad drove up Pike's Peak on one family vacation.  It can be pretty scary as there are no guard rails to the top.  There is a gift shop halfway up where you get out to rest your brakes.  Driving yourself is more scenic, but I would suggest the Cog Railway if anyone is afraid of heights.  We took that a few years later and it is a much easier ride.  They let you get out at the top for about an hour to sightsee and look through the giftshop.  Garden of the Gods is a must if you are in the area.  You can drive through or get out and spend some time in the park.  Very cool rock formations and hiking trails.  They also have a few gift shops and a welcome center as well as a restaurant and picnic sites.
  • I used to live in Colorado Springs.  Garden of the Gods is a must.  It's especially cool to go at dusk because there are thousands of bats that make their homes in the rocks.  Really neat to see.

Pike's Peak really isn't that interesting, IMO. It's cool to take a photo at the top, but that's about it.

Manitou Springs is awesome.  It's probably the most beautiful area of town.  I'd HIGHLY recommend going to Cave of the Winds.  In fact, aside from Garden of the Gods, it's my favorite "tourist attraction" in town.

  • Garden of the Gods is absolutely gorgeous and FREE!  I have done the Cog Rail- it was fun to do once, but a little bit pricey.  Not that scenic since it goes straight up the mountain, but fun if you are never that high in altitude just so you can say that you have done it.  :)  The Olympic Training center is also in Colorado Springs- might be worth a tour???
