Montreal & Quebec City
We finally booked our July vacation (after going back and forth on many different ideas)! We will be flying into Montreal and departing out of Quebec City the first week of July.
Please give me some recommendations on what to do/see. I haven't been to either city and it's been at least 10 years since DH has been to Montreal and at least 15 since he's been to Quebec City. I think we'll be spending 2 1/2 days in Montreal and then another 3 days in Quebec City.
TIA!
I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.
Re: Montreal & Quebec City
Some of my recommendations for Montreal are in this thread.
I've never been to QC but would like to go someday.
Thanks for the link!
I saw something in the NY Times about the Blix (or was it Bix?) bikes that you can rent for $5/day. Is that worth it? It would give us more room to travel (and exercise!).
I would recommend a tour of Ste. Anne de Beaupre, Canyon Ste. Anne, and Montmorency Falls outside of Quebec. There is a great tourist information center just off Terrace Dufferin at Place d'Armes across from the Chateau Frontenac. I did a couple of tours that included Ile de Orleans, with a stop at one of the wineries on the Island. Old Town Quebec is very walkable -- though I would suggest taking the funicular rather than the stairs to get from Lower to Upper Town. You could just head out from your hotel and wander where the whim takes you. The Plains of Abraham has a nice visitor center with some interesting historical displays, and in the summer it's very nice to walk along the Terrace Dufferin,
In Montreal, I booked my tours out of the Tourist Information Center just off Peel Street. St. Joseph's Oratory is a very interesting church, as as the Notre Dame Basilica. I have really only been to Montreal before/after cruises so I haven't seen all that much of the city. I have found the tourist information centers to be very helpful.
I have been to both Montreal and Quebec City and DorothyinAus got it all. All I can add is that both cities are great for shopping (though taxes can be high) with a lot of French flair. I love Reitmans and La Maison Simons. Also, make sure to have some crepes and try some poutine!
Also, if you are in Montreal and want to splurge for dinner, I would suggest Le Grain de Sel. It isn't cheap but the food and service is amazing. We have been there both times we went.

In Quebec I like to eat at the revolving restaurant
