SF or Sausalito (one night only)?
My H is doing a bike race near Santa Rosa in Sept & we're going to spend a few days in Sonoma. We fly into SFO late afternoon & do not have hotel reservations for that first night. We'll head to Santa Rosa the next day.
We're trying to decide whether to stay in SF & have sushi somewhere OR start heading out of SF & stay somewhere like Sausalito that night.
If it matters, we've been to SF a few times so don't feel like we're missing out if we don't stay in the city that first night. We've been to Sausalito & Tiburon, but only for the day. WWYD?
Bonus points if you can rec a fab sushi place & fab nearby hotel in SF OR a great restaurant & nice nearby hotel in Sausalito (or wherever).
Re: SF or Sausalito (one night only)?
My DH and I actually just got back from a vacation in that area. We stayed in Mill Valley and loved the town (not so much the hotel, Aqua Hotel). I would definitely recommend staying there or Sausalito--it looked like such a quaint town with lots of things to do/eat.
When we were in downtown Mill Valley, the hotel in the town square looked great--Mill Valley Inn.
The best sushi I have had in a while was at Sushi Ran in Sausalito:
