Also, a story to share

At the FRG meeting the other day, there was a persec trainwreck just waiting to happen.

There was a new wife (apparently they've been married for a month) who just moved here. She comes to the meeting with a purse made out of NWU's with her H's name tape on it. She is wearing a shirt that says her H's name, rate, rank annnnnnd the ship he's on. To top it off, she is also wearing his dog tags. I'm pretty sure my eyes popped out of my head.

I sent an email to the ombudsman asking nicely to send out a mass email on persec asap.

Holy crap. She's like the poster child for military spouse AWs.

This. I'm proud of you for not going up to her and telling her to go home and change clothes and her purse and remove the dog tags from her person. Dear Lord that must have been hard to keep your mouth shut.

Seriously. I should have checked her car for "I heart my sailor" stickers on my way out.

    Haha.

No seriously though. Did she have the dogs tags made? I've never seen DH with any dog tags. Although we did manage to locate his shower shoes last night so that he can comfortably shower when he's away.

  • I know PERSEC isn't funny I promise but I'm dying laughing because I'm secretly hoping it's the girl I quit being friends with a few months ago because she took "sexy" pics in her, then FI's, NWU's then posted them all over FB and said it was okay because the command gave her permission. I couldn't believe she even asked them for permission or that they granted it. That certainly better not become a thing because I feel it's severely disrespectful. Then she told me that ms and all my friends are nasty wives on high horses that just don't understand because I wasn't the only one that found it disrespectful. Sorry I kind of thread jacked for a vent.

  • Lawdy!  That reminds me of the couple I saw at Old Navy the other day.  He looked like a total douche wearing his skater cap side ways and his pants below his cheeks with a belt sinched tight.  She was wearing short shorts with a tank top that said, "PFC ____'s Chick"  and had his ID tags on.  My 11 yr old was smart enough to be appalled.  My jaw was hanging open but I was able to keep words from flowing.  My daughter, however, spoke for me, lol.  "Dog tags are for soldiers, not their girlfriends.  You have to earn them."

Mary, I probably would have died laughing.  I'm glad you were able to stay professional about it.  Next time, sneak us some pics, lol.

  • Ok i ask forgiveness in advance for the following and continue my preface by saying I am new to both the military life as well as this board. So with that:

I completely understand the inappropriateness of her outfit as well as the sheer obnoxiousness of it (was she 12?). But what I am unsure of is what is wrong with a car decal? I recently purchased the AF wings decal for my car because I am proud of my husband. It has no words, no names, just the wings. Is this a no-no? Since I am new to the life I don't know what is frowned upon/ may get him in trouble/ may get me in trouble, etc.  Help!

and for that matter what is the protocol for interactions between enlisted spouses and officer spouses?

There's nothing wrong with a decal. It's the toughest job in the whatever ones that bug me.

    And there is none.

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • Alright, thanks for clearing that up.

As for the interaction question I only ask because I know that officers are not supposed to be friends with or hang out with enlisted so i was not sure where (if any) the boundaries were for the wives.

  • Maybe she thought it was a costume party.

  • Speaking of O and E spouses, I "accidentally" made friend's with DH's CO's wife when he was with the Marine battalion. He seriously freaked out. It's not like we were telling everyone our husband's rank at the event. The next day the CO came down to DH to tell him how much his wife enjoyed meeting me lol.
