s/o Friday weddings

How does everyone have so many weddings that you don't have to take time off for? I have never been to an in-town wedding. I have never not had to take time off to go to a wedding. Never.

Actually, we went to one that was only 2 hours away by car once. But we still had to take time off because Brad was in the wedding so we had to do that rehearsal dinner thing the night before.

Am I the odd one here?  I never knew so many other people could just hop in their cars and call it a day.

I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns

Re: s/o Friday weddings

  • I've only been to one local wedding - the rest I had to travel to attend. FI and I don't live near family and the majority of our friends live all over the country so traveling is a must.
  • I've had a mix of all.  Local, out of town, in the wedding, just a guest, etc.

  • Most of the weddings I have been to are local and those that haven't been are driving distance so I will just leave on Saturday morning and then stay in a hotel after the wedding and drive back Sunday.

  • I'd say it's a 50/50 mix. I come from an incredibly small family, so every wedding I've ever attended has been a friend's.
    This is my siggy.
  • Every wedding I've been to has only been minutes away. The most we traveled has been about 45 minutes away. This was when I lived in CT though. Now that I'm in NYC, we would take the train in. But we're lucky to have weekends off (my Husband even has Fridays off) so we've never had to take time off.... Yet!
  • The ones I've been to have been either in town or so far we either have to fly or leave home Thurs bright & early for a Sat wedding.

  • I have only been to three wedding. I was only in one, but I was 10. They have all been fairly local, never had to take time off.

People I know just don't get married, I guess.

  • lately most weddings have been local (no more then a 2 hour drive)

I do have to travel for a wedding in sept, my daughter is in the wedding and there is no convient way to fly up there so we are driving up on thursday (8 hours) the rehersal is friday at noon (though that was a strange time) and then wedding is on saturday and there is a brunch on sunday for the wedding party which we are invtied to but skipping so we can get back on the road and get home.

  • My wedding was the second one I had ever attended. I've been to one or two since. H and I skipped one this fall that was taking place at West Point after we realized it would cost us well over $1000 to attend.

A bunch of our friends are already married. Of those that aren't, several are engaged, and none of our siblings are married (all are younger and there are five b/w H and I) so I think we'll hit our wedding peak in the next few years...we'll have to travel for any/all family weddings.

I'm not helping here, am I?

Just your mere presence is a help.

  • I've never had to fly to attend a wedding and I go to most of the weddings I'm invited to. I have a cousin that got married in Hawaii and we did not attend that wedding.  His wife's family lives in Hawaii (she also grew up there), so it wasn't really a destination wedding, I suppose.

I live in the town I grew up in and all of my family that I speak to are within an hour of where I live (most are a 15 min or less drive).   FI's family is a 2-3 hr drive away and most of them are married, so there's only been one wedding to attend on his side since we've known each other.  My friends are all around here too.

I know, but all the dresses I own (half of which have tags on them!) might not be as cute by then! Stop living in sin and get married already people!

  • Most of the weddings I've been to have been local.  But in the last year I've been in 3 weddings...so it didn't matter that it was local - I still took a ton of time off.

  • I just don't go if the wedding is out of town.  The problem is solved from my end.
