Any Solo PR Pros out there?
I have a BA in advertising and PR. Right now, I'm doing customer service just to pay the bills, but within the next few years I would like to branch out and start doing some PR consulting on the side and maybe eventually turn it into a full-time gig.
I have a few years of PR experience and have done some PR consulting in and out of school. I was just wondering if anyone on the around here had some advice for either starting your own business or doing PR on a freelance basis?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Any Solo PR Pros out there?
Hey there - I started my own advertising agency last year and love it! It's definitely taken off. I will say it's a LOT (times 1000) of work, but for me it's been worth it. You'll have to be really open minded about what your business is going to end up being - we're different in many ways (because we grew so fast) than how I started the company - but for me I think that's good! You can check our our FB page/website which has our history from the past year etc... and if you get any questions from things you see I'm happy to answer them!

Yea! Go women business owners! I love it!
I'm not one, but hire freelance and solo practioners somewhat often. We hire freelance folks with some experience for specific projects -- often doing events or promoting programs or market research. In these instances, we almost exclusively hire people we know -- most of them I meet through networking, many from cold calls for informational interviews even.
For the larger efforts, we almost exclusively hire a firm or someone with expert firm experience that has gone solo as we need the media & legislative connections and expertise.
