50 Shades of Grey

OK, who's read it.

I've heard mixed reviews.  Some say it's just plain awful.  Some say it's not really a good quality but good for an easy, trashy read.

Anyone want to share their 2 cents?

After the Hunger Games, I could use some easy trashy reads....

Re: 50 Shades of Grey

  • I am curious too, it seems pretty poplar on the Nest Book Club, but I had never heard of it prior to joining the board.
  • I have downloaded it and am finishing hunger games prior as well- I hear its one to definitely get you in the mood. My friends are all reading it and their husbands are thankful from what I hear... I am holding judgement until I am done so I can enjoy it on my own.

  • I've downloaded it, but haven't started reading it yet. I love some smutty lit, though, so I'm thinking compared to some of the crap I've read this is going to seem like Tolstoy.

see, people keep bashing it and it's making me skeptical.  But if I go into it knowing it's smut, then I doubt I'll be disappointed, right?  I mean, I'm not looking for quality literature here.  Just seems like a fun read.

Exactly. I like to sneaky read smutty lit and then jump Robin. I don't expect, even want, it to be high quality. For a book like this to become mainstream makes me have really high hopes..... but again I'm comparing it to like Fabio books (but they don't put Fabio on them anymore).

  • Knowing it's origin (a Twilight FanFic), I can't read it. It's just too weird/creepy.

I've admittedly read some Twi-Fic, but none like that.

ETA: from what I've heard about it, the writing/grammar is atrocious. She took her original fanfic and basically just swapped out the names and a few minor details.

hmmm, smut I'm ok with, but bad grammar would probably bother me....

I agree with you, Nooner.  My curiousity got the best of me, so I ordered it off Amazon last week with some other things (yay for Super Saver shipping). H and I have both seen a lot about it on TV, and he was excited I bought it.  It should arrive later this week, and I'll give you a full report when it is done.  I am intrigued by the idea that it is sparking some hot sexy time in bedrooms across america.  I figure if I get a few hot evenings out of it, even if it has bad grammar, it will be worth it.  Smutty reading always gets me in the mood.
