I posted on Travel last week; although I think I had your sn with a "r" in there, sorry!, but how was Chicago?  I'm curious to hear what you did.

Re: *Clevebride*

  • Hey HZ- I?m not on the Travel board as often as I used to be? We had a great time! It was a whirlwind weekend since we did Chicago in 2 days.

We left Cincinnati around 6:15am EST and got into Chicago around 11:30am CST. We stayed at the Sax Chicago (on Dearborn)- we loved the boutique hotel! From there, we walked to Portillo?s. Our group (4 of us) got Chicago-style hot dogs, and I got the Italian beef sandwich with hot peppers. Holy moly- I don?t normally like/eat beef, but my beef sandwich was so delicious! From there, we walked to Michigan Avenue and proceeded to shop til 8pm. We were exhausted! We also visited Millennium Park/The Bean/Pritzker Auditorium, and the Fountains. It was a lot of fun. We went back to the hotel, changed into different clothes, and headed to Chinatown for a bit. Shopped, looked at shops, and had an eggroll to go from Three Happiness. For dinner, we went to Gino?s East at Ontario/Wells. It was closer to 8:30pm and there was a line outside! Luckily, it moved pretty quickly. Pizza was great. We didn?t get back to the hotel until 10:30pm CST? We were tired.

Then Sunday, we went to the Westin in Rosemont to go to the Vampire Diaries Convention. We went to a few Q&A panels and then left to go have lunch back in the city- Maddie picked Rainforest Caf? since she?d never been there (most of us had been in other cities). It was fun, but definitely reminded me why I didn?t like it the first time I tried it in Vegas. Definitely better restaurants out there! We went back to the Convention and stayed for a few more hours, then headed to Garrett?s popcorn (it was a must for me), and then back to Cincinnati. It was definitely a whirlwind weekend, and wished we could have stayed an extra night, but it was still a great trip.

We wanted to go visit the Sears/Willis Tower but just ran out of time/exhausted. I wanted to take them to eat dim sum in Chinatown, but 1) we had to be at the Convention early, and 2) my friends aren?t adventurous eaters L Bummer! Next time, they also want to go on the water taxi tour. There was just so much we wished we could have done but ran out of time.

  • Nice! That sounds like a good trip! How was the weather?!

Portillo's italian beef with hot peppers and cheese is my guilty pleasure! I'm glad you had fun

  • Chicago is one of my favorite cities.  I'm glad you made it to Gino's East and Chinatown, but that's too bad that you had to spend a meal at the Rainforest Cafe :)  You'll just have to go back again and do some of the stuff you missed!

Your post makes me want to plan a trip to Chicago!
