Hemming Jeans - But to What Length?

I'm on the shorter side - about 5'3"ish - so all the jeans I buy are too long...  I have three "skinny" jeans that I'd like to shorten.

Where should they fall to on my leg/ankle/foot?  I plan to wear mostly flat sandals, but sometimes heels too.

Thanks!

Re: Hemming Jeans - But to What Length?

  • I normally hem to mid-arch but I tend to wear heels.  It's not too bad with flats.  My suggestion is to hem them to work with the shoe you normally wear.

  • to clarify - are you asking how long to hem skinny jeans?  like the kind that stop at your ankle?

if so, mine fall right below the bone on the outside of my foot (that ball part that sticks out, lol)

if you are talking about hemming regular jeans, I have given up making jeans multipurpose because inevitably I ruin the long ones trying to wear them with short shoes (I'm 5').  So I have some that I hem short and some that I leave long.

  • I agree with amandasw, right at the ankle bone.
  • I'm your height and have short legs. I buy short or petite pants and the inseam is usually 30 in. My skinniest hit at my ankle bone. I think they look good with flats or heels.
  • Maybe you can shorten two to calf length, I think it will match with your sandals well. One to ankle length to match with heels.
