Dog, In-laws, and DH - vent

Until we can move into our new house, my in-laws are letting us stay at their place. However, we were not allowed to bring our dog because supposedly they don't like dogs (they have a dog though, so I must be missing something). I am absolutely not happy with the situation, but "their house, their rules" so I'm trying to put on a happy face and thank them for their hospitality nonetheless. Today, the person we were leaving our dog with is painting their house so we had to take him with us. So as to not bother my in-laws, I took the dog to the vet and groomer. Yet, in-laws made sure to tell me "the dog better be out of here by 7". Again I understand it is their right since it is their house, but what the **** did my dog ever do to you!!??! he is in the yard, doesn't bark, doesn't dig holes, all he does is sleep! It just really p*ssed me off.

And now, DH tells me our dog will have to stay with us at my in-laws today because we can't take him back to the guy painting his house for x reason, but DH informs me he will be in a meeting til late tonight so I have to tell my in-laws about this! Thanks DH!

ok, I'm done venting...

(look at that cutie! who could possibly not love him?!)

  • That sucks. :-/ I would be really upset if DH made me tell his parents something I knew they wouldn't like. That's his job.

And your dog really is cute.

Ditto! DH needs to be the one to tell them.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this issue.

  • My in-laws annoy me too. To the point that I'm looking at places to stay in Z?rich for the first half of our trip because I rather spend my time revisiting my old city then siting around alone in their house for half the day and the other half being smoked on and biitched at because my German isn't up to par. The other half in Germany with MIL is much better thankfully. Grin and bear it that's my motto. :/

And ditto this. I would be fuming. He might not be there but I'm sure he can pick up the phone and tell them.

  • My in laws are exactly the same. We have a lazy Basset Hound who sleeps all the time, but she is not allowed to set paw in their house. But we can't even stay in their house when we visit them in Austria; when they moved there permanently (they used to live in Germany and used their house in Austria as a vacation thing), they turned my husband's room into a walk-in closet.

But I think I would go insane if I had to stay with them anyway.

  • Has your DH not heard of this new invention everyone is talking about?  It's called a phone!!!! You pick it up, select your contact / dial their number and then speak through it and you can talk to people without having to be in the room with them...

    Chicken sh!t!!

  • Man, I'd be cheesed off with DH too!  That's ridiculous.  And your dog is SUPER adorable, so how could you not love him!

Sorry you're dealing with this, that sucks!

    This!

But if you can get the pooch to Germany, I?ll be happy to let him stay with us.

  • Thank you for understanding my pain.

DH ended up arriving just minutes after his dad so I didn't have time to explain anything (I was relieved, I was really dreading it). In the end we were forced to call one of his aunts who accepted to take him in for the night. It broke my heart to see him so sad when he understood we were leaving him there. I hate this! If it were my parents, I would so tell them what I think!

  • This sounds so frustrating. I'm like you, I would tell them for sure. I would also ask my husband why is it that he's not telling his parents what he thinks. The way I see it a dog is a family member, it's as if they asked me to leave my kid elsewhere. That would be when I started to look for another place to stay. Plus your dog IS adorable!
