TY-Higher Ed Faculty Interview

I have my first-ever interview with a university next week. It's an all day event: meeting with deans, administrators, department heads, faculty and the selection committee.  After the interview do I send thank you notes to just the selection committee members or do I also send notes to each person I have indiviudal meetings with? Is it more appropriate to send an email or typed letter?

TIA!

Re: TY-Higher Ed Faculty Interview

  • Everyone you meet with

Either e-mail or handwritten, not typed (unless you have horrendous handwriting). i'm old-school and prefer hand-written, but even an e-mail would be OK in my book.

  • I've always emailed them because one of the last questions I asked at my faculty interviews was, "Do you have an idea when you might be making a decision by?" and the decision was usually quick, so I emailed to be sure they got there. I'd send one to each person you meet with. Just be sure they're all at least a bit different because, at least at my university, they become a part of your application packet and we share them with one another.
  • Email to everyone you meet with - by end of day (but not 5 minutes right after the interview). Personally, i would do a handwritten note as well to everyone I met with - or the selection committee and my would-be boss at a minimum.
