Re: Bumps, Mums, BBTs, a day late
Hello all! I didn't realize Bali had her LO too, did I miss a post??? Congrats!
Ups: DD is rolling rolling rolling. It's like a Wal-Mart commercial over her ladies. All she wants to do is roll all day long now that she's mastered front to back and back to front. It's pretty cute.
Downs: She is so wiggly and keeps trying to roll over while I'm changing her diaper. Not a big down, but it's annoying. She has her 6 month vaccines today too so I'm hoping they don't bother her too much.
QOTW: Right now she is sleeping in our room next to our bed, but I think I am ready for her to move into her own room because she seems to wake up when we go in to go to bed. I think she would sleep better and wake fewer times if we were not right beside her. BUT, I told this to MIL yesterday (we are living with them until our move on Sunday) and she acted like I was going to shoot a puppy. She basically told me that moving DD to her own room at only 6 months will be so harmful because she'll be so scared to sleep all alone. Then DH later was thinking that maybe she's too young.
So I guess we don't know yet. I think in the next month or so we will transition her to her own room in our new apartment once we're more settled in, but we'll see if DH agrees. I did tell him that of course he sees no problem with her sleeping in our room because he doesn't wake up when she cries or have to wake up to feed her/rock her back to sleep --that's always me. And if moving her to her own room helps her sleep longer stretches then I am all for it.
Congrats to those who have joined the IN family!
Ups - I had my surgery on Monday to correct a fertility problem and it seems to have gone well. If my scan on Friday is good, then I get to start IVF treatment (stimulation meds).
Downs - the general anesthetic has killed me and I'm getting nothing done, when I have tons to do. Sigh.
No answer to the QOTD as I don't have kids.
Ups: ctbaby is so fun and doing so well.
Downs: Not really any right now.
QOTW: We bedshare. Before I had ctbaby, I was totally against having baby in bed. When we hwere having lots of problems getting him to sleep in the beginning, my midwife suggested having him sleep with us. For the time being, it works amazingly well.
Of course, those who know are giving us lots of problems. My stepmom and dad keep asking when we're going to move ctbaby out of our bed. My MIL, who doesn't know but thinks he sleeps in a bassinet in our room, keeps telling me that he won't cry so much during the day if he sleeps in his own room at night. For right now, I have no plans on changing this set-up. As my DH says, "Never touch a running system." When we have problems, then we'll change something.
Thinking of you UK!
Ups: Baby girl is growing and smiling and usually very happy. I bought her a jumperoo and she is loving it!
Downs: We're having a few rough nights, but they are made kind of amusing as she just wakes up to chat and eat.
QOTD: DD sleeps in her cot in our room. I think we would/will move her out at around 6months. Right now our other room has some issues with dampness so as long as we live here she will be in our room because I don't feel comfortable putting her in there. I'm glad we've had her in our room because it certainly makes getting up with her easier and it gives me more piece of mind.
Also, strangely enough if she sees me sleeping she will go to sleep. I found that when she is really overtired and can't seem to fall asleep, then if I lay her down next to me and close my eyes then she will go to sleep. I sometimes then fall asleep as well.
Ups: William got into our local school, which was expected but still good news.Matilda is a happy girl, and is doign well generally without as much mummy milk. I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, too, so that's nice. (Just need to figure out a plan for total weaning, eventually...)
Downs: William is in quite a naughty phase. He doesn't listen, deliberately ignores us, etc. I'm thinking of shifting from time-outs, which I was never keen on, for various reasons,, to cool off time in his room.
Random thing: Matilda - after 16 months of not having one, found one of our old newborn dummies yesterday, and has been sucking on it - a lot. I don't know if it's the weaning, or teething, or what, but it's totally random.
QOTW: Oh, goodness, I could write a book on this!
I was also agaisnt bed-sharing before W, but that was the only way we could get him to sleep for months. It worked pretty well for a while, but after the 4 month growth spurt, he just kept feeding all night long> (Both my kids ahve never taken a pacifier, but both have liked the boob in their mouth all ngiht long.) It got too much eventually, and we did controlled crying at 8 months with him He went from feeding every 45 min to sleeping thru the night on the first go. He went into his own room when we moved house a month later.
With M, I was prepared to bedshare, but she wasn't. She only wanted to sleep on my chest sitting up. So we worked at bedsharing, but also keeping her in her cot, so it wasn't as hard to transition her to her cot all night long.So we had a long, gradual process with Matilda. She was in her cot all night long by 5 months, but still fed thru the night until 11? We didn't move her out of our room until quite late - 12.5 months, but that was becasue she wnet in with WIlliam, and I was sooooo worried about how that would go. It took a month or two to settle down, and they still go to bed at different times, so it can be rocky, but now it's pretty good. I'd love a 3rd bedroom though!
That's great news UK. FX for you as always.
Ups: 15 weeks today and still feeling fairly good. Now that we're out in the open, I've been getting tons of advice from people, most of which are helpful (for now).
Downs: We decided we can't justify another trip back to the US this summer for a baby shower. MIL is pretty bummed about it, as are we, but given the time and cost involved, we didn't think it made sense.
QOTW: For now, I think we're planning on having LO in a cot in our room to start. But we're still considering alternatives.
Cecilia arrived 12 October 2012
We have moved to sending to the bedroom. It works better for us. In fact, sometimes James now walks himself to his bedroom. He still enjoys his bedroom, but he also knows that if he wants to make 'unnecessary noise' (i.e. a 3 hour tantrum) then he is welcome to go and have the tantrum in his room and when he is finished he can come out.
Ups: James got into our first choice school. I am so happy. Its the best school in the area and we have been preparing for this for 2 years now. And he started with a new SaLT on Friday.
Downs: We have some personal things going on, don't feel like sharing on here though.
QOTW: We co-shared when James was younger, now he still comes to our bed sometime in the night. Every night we go to sleep with James in his bed and every morning we wake up with him in the middle.
Ups: I finally found some playgroups and more people for W and me to interact with, so that's nice. I'm 22 weeks along now, yay!
Downs: I'm having bad back pains that hurt late in the day and when I try to sleep. I didn't have this so much when I was pregnant with W, so it's annoying.
QOTD: We've been all over the place. He started in the crib in our room because of all the visitors. We moved him into his room eventually. Both of those he'd need to fall asleep on our bed first then move to the crib. Then we travelled for a month and he stayed in a crib in our room. Then we put the crib back in our room when it was hot since our room has a/c and he gets hot easily. Then my H was gone for about 5 weeks and during that time, I just let W sleep with me. Then we traveled a bunch and he ended up just sleeping in our room the whole night. Either in the bed or in his crib, which at this point was back in our room because it was so cold and the radiator in his room is broken. We moved the crib back to his room and then I got him to go to sleep in his crib on his own when my H was out of town. That's our current set up. The problem is when he wakes up in the middle of the night he'll cry for 30 second to a minute and then do one of two things, fall back asleep or stay awake for 2 hours. By then he's in our bed and nothing gets him to go back to sleep except waiting for two hours to pass. If we put him in his crib, he screams and screams. So, he sleeps in his room, his crib 4-6 hours a night and the rest of the time he sleeps with us.
This is good to hear. There are a lot of reasons I'm thinking this. I'm not sure it'll be any better, but mainly, he often backs himself into a corner with a tantrum, and it just seems to get worse if we try a time out, even after the time out. I think he needs a cool off time, and the time outs aren't working that way.
Morning - UK, I hope the surgery was successful!
Ups: DD is getting uber-cute and has decided she's ready to run, although she usually ends up right back on the floor after a few running steps. Also, it looks like I will not need a D&C, which I'm very happy about, insofar as you can be happy about these kinds of things.
Downs: We've regressed to her waking up 3-6 times / night again (we were down to 2x), which I'm sure is partially because of the time change. I need to do laundry again today, though, because her diapers can't hold everything in when she drinks that much at night.
QOTD: From the beginning we had a co-sleeper that she was in in our room, then after our trip to the US over xmas, we moved her co-sleeper (which could have the 4th side put up to be a regular crib) into her room. The transition was really easy - I don't even think she really noticed. She was 8 months old at the time.
Ups: A had his 4 month appt yesterday. He is a healthy happy boy. He is a big boy coming in at a whopping 17.9 lbs. That puts him in the 90th percentile for breastfed babies. My pedi joked I must make ice cream with these suckers. And my darling son is teething. She saw 2 buds pushing up through his bottom gums.
Downs: A spiked a fever after his shots and we had a miserable night. I finally brought him to bed with us around 4 this morning. He has had a bit of a sleep regression. And when I say not I mean going from 6+ hours back down to every two. It sucks. But I've been reading this is a pretty common occurrence for this age. I keep telling myself I will sleep again one day.
QOTD: we just moved A to his own room this week. But he slept in our room in his pack n play last night because of his fever. We usually bring him to bed with us in the morning to get another couple hours sleep.
My Israel Blog!
Ups: Just had M's 3.5 year check up, he is in good health and even put on 400g and grew 1.5 cm since January. He has been a really nice kid for the past two weeks.
Downs: He is on school holidays until May 7th, I am losing my personal time and having to find activities to do with him all day...
QOTW: We co-slept until he was about 9 months old, it was easier for the all night buffet. That's also when we moved into this place and he got his own room He still comes into our room every night now...
Good luck on Friday, UK!
Ups: We had our 20 week scan Tuesday and our baby looks great! Skittle is a little boy! We are so excited!
Downs: I'm having baby shower drama and it is so annoying. We are flying back for it and everyone wants a different date, etc. I just wished everyone lived in the same place.
QOTW: Skittle is going to be staying in our room for the first six months or so, and then we will see.
Hi! Could you please add me to the Bump list - DS#2 is due August 6th.
QOTW - DS slept in our bed until he was 6 months or so and now sleeps in his toddler bed in our room. He'll be moved to his own room any day now in preparation for New Baby's arrival.
Good luck UK!!
Ups: no sign of the chickenpox yet despite a second of her cousins getting it last weekend. She is now saying 'ta (for thank you) every time you give her something which is very cute!
Downs: she's also learnt how to say no... And is quite stubborn (though she didn't lick that off the street!)
QOTW: we seem to be the odd ones out! N moved to her own room at 5 weeks. She was waking us up too much and the number of bottles we prepared thinking she was about to wake and then didn't was getting silly. And we were disturbing her every time we went to bed. She didn't notice a thing. Was only waking once at around 2/3am and then again at 6-8am. By 9 weeks she was regularly going from 9pm to 6 or 7am. And other than the first 4 days of live she has never slept in our bed - our bed is a place to play or read bedtime stories.
Would probably do the same again with another one...
Can you add me to the bumps list? I'm due 12/28.
Our boys both started out in our room and moved into their own room at about 4 months. I was too scared to bedshare with Z, but I wouldn't have survived without having A co-sleep. I'm completely sure we'll follow the same pattern with this new little one.
Thanks everyone!
Ups: I finally have an outside baby! I've been really slack and haven't done a post yet. We were in hospital for nearly a week (nothing was wrong- that is just what they do). It was nice to be able to relax a bit and have people around to help. We are now at home and things are going really well. We are getting ready to venture to target when LO wakes up!
Downs: I'm tired!
QOTW: right now LO is sleeping in our room in a porta cot. We are not planning to move him to his room for a while, at least until the nightly feedings die down!
Im hoping to get around to writing a post today or tomorrow. I've been nesting from the iPad and it's much easier for me to change tickers, post pics etc from the laptop!
Ups: dd is starting to communicate SO well, its nice that she can now tell me (to an extent) what she wants - although she fell the other day and didn't really hurt anything (just hurt cause she landed on her hands) and said 'Medicine Mama?' ummmm no - but I'll give you cuddles lol. They said at daycare this week she copied the teacher when she was telling a child to stop standing on the sofa 'Hey Mila - stop - get down!' my little miss bossy
Downs: its been a great week actually - only down I can think of is that she has started having a few crying fits when she doesn't get her way - but I'm trying to stay strong so she knows no means no, but I'm just happy she's back to eating normally after 5 days of eating not much more than crackers after her gastro episode!
QOTW - we had dd in her own cot from day 1. Dh is a light sleeper, so it was easier for us to have her in the other room for me to feed, soothe while he tried to get some sleep for his stressful job.
Could you add me to the bumps list, too, please? Due date is May 11 ... my husband is already asks permission every night if he can drink a beer or not.
Ups: I'm already a bit dilated and a lot effaced. I hope I can make it to 9-10 cm with little pain and from the comfort of my couch. Har har ...
Downs: Hoisting myself out of the bathtub is like having seats in the splash section at Sea Word.
QOTW: Our daughter is still in our room; we have a pretty big bed, and we bought her a twin bed that fits flush against ours. The baby will join in the fun, too. To be honest, I wish our warmth whore of a dog would move out; the kid doesn't bother me at all.
Just popped in a sec while baby is sleeping.
So far things are going pretty well she only gets up once a night needing to be fed which is nice. Things aren't always easy though. Last night I spent a good 3 hours with her sleeping in my arms while I slept in the recliner. She wouldn't settle and I didn't want to keep DH awake. Other than that things are going well!
ETA: I was just looking for Taylina on the list in April. She accidentally got added to the list in May. Also her birth date is the 22
