I found this on the website:
"You may bring a stroller to the gate for ease of travel through the airport. The stroller may be gate checked just before boarding the plane and will be returned to the aircraft jet way upon arrival at your destination. Car seats and strollers may be checked free of charge; any other items are subject to standard baggage fees (i.e., portable crib, high chair, etc.)."
Does this mean we can actually use the stroller up until we are boarding the plane and it will be waiting on us shortly after we arrive at the exit... or do we have to pick it up at baggage claims? We never fly so all this check-in, boarding terminal etc..is like a foreign language to us. Also I am assuming the booster seat we will check it in with our baggage? Do we need some type of special bag to place any of this in?
Re: Flying question re-stroller...stupid question
Yep. You can push the stroller right up to the plane door. Make sure it gets a special tag noting, for the ground crew, that it is a gate checked item so the crew at your end point knows to put it back up on the jet bridge once the plane pulls in. You can do the booster via the baggage claim. They will take it from you at the ticketing check-in counter. To keep it clean, you might want a carrying case, which they sell on babiesrus.com
Yes, you can use the stroller up until you board the plane. When you arrive at your depature gate, go to the counter and request a gate check tag. When you go to board the plane, you'll leave it at the end of the ramp (with all the other strollers, trust me, LOL). When you exit the plane, it should be right there outside the plane when you get off before you go up the ramp to the terminal.
I would suggest a cover/bag for both the stroller and the booster seat. But that's just my preference. It's not required.
I second the suggestion to bag your items. We have flown our stroller many times, it has a bent rear axle and it has recently become a three wheeler. (H has rigged the 4th wheel back on with a nut and bolt.) If you have a stroller that is cheaper, I would definitely fly that one; we fly the Graco carseat frame stroller, but not the Bob. Incidentally, wheels are one of the items that airlines will not fix/replace if they break.
ETA: The car seat bag that we use is a JL Childress backpack. It has flown 16 times including a few long hauls and has held up remarkably well. It is somewhat beat up though, which makes me happy that the seat was in a bag, not completely exposed.
