Lifting- Sore muscles and what to do?
I did some heavy leg strength training yesterday and they are all kinds of sore. Difficult to sit down, walking down steps, etc.
Is there anything I can do to help prevent this? Anything I can eat or do per/post workout? Would working out or running today help?
Re: Lifting- Sore muscles and what to do?
Enjoy it. You worked hard for that soreness. :-)
It gets better the more you lift but you will always be sore. My legs still give me absolute fits for 2 days but I love every minute of it.
When I started truly lifting weights, I remember thanking DH for making sure the railing going down the stairs was secured in studs...if it wasn't, I may have pulled it out of the wall trying to get down those stairs! The first couple of times are the worst, but you will always be a little sore after lifting. The amazing thing is, you will start to love that soreness! Enjoy it, it means you are doing something good for you!!!
I've read and heard from several trainers that a small glass of chocolate milk after a workout helps. And it's a perfect, delicious treat too!

light cardio.
When you warm up the muscles the lactic acid can release more, helping relieve some of the soreness. When I wake up suuuper sore and stiff from a good lifting day, getting my butt into a step class in the morning always loosens everything up and makes me MUCH less sore.
This. It hurts SO good! And then same as the others - warm up with cardio, stretch, lift. If I'm really sore, I'll grab a banana for the potassium.
