White Swimwear?

I love the look on the models and editorials but have always been scared to have a white bathing suit. What are your thoughts on white bathing suits?

Re: White Swimwear?

  • I have the same thoughts as you regarding being scared to try it myself. I think if the material is high quality (ie nice and thick) and it is well-lined, then it should be okay!
  • I had one years ago and liked it. I really want one now. I found 2 or three that I plan to buy eventually.
  • My friend has them and they look great on her.  Of course she has the skin tone to pull it off.  Also, good lining is key.

    They aren't for me though.

  • I had one by island company when I was younger. They are vey thick and well lined. I can't pull it off anymore however.

  • I love my white suit.  It's H's favorite.  It's very well lined.

Mine is actually two different bikinis.  I purchased the original one from Hollister but stupidly didn't bother trying it on, I just bought my usual size and left.  My rump was never, ever going to fit in that sucker.  My crack was constantly poking out of the top.  Long story short, I couldn't get a new bottom, so I bought a plain white one from VS that was a similar style.

I don't know that I would order one on line unless they had a good return policy just incase its not as well lined as I would like.

  • I have a couple of white suits that I love, but I wont wear them until I have a tan.  Before that its scary.

    I agree, lining is key.

  • I feel you have to have a perfect shape and be tanned to have it work.
  • I agree that lining is key.  Make sure the material is thick and it is fully lined (both front and back).  Get something with a good return policy if you can.  Try it on wet before you wear it out to make sure it's not going to show anything you don't want showing before going out in public just in case it's not as thick as you thought it was going to be.  If you do this and it's not what you want at least you won't be embarassed when you do wear it out.
  • The bottoms to a suit of mine is white. I never really thought anything of it like being scared to wear it. I really like it
  • I have a white bathing suit that I love! It just gets dirty a lot quicker than my other bathing suits of course. I hand wash it with dove soap and it comes out nice and bright afterward.
  • A man was wearing a white Speedo while I was at the pool once (I was 8).

That's the day I learned what a penis looked like IRL.

    So I vote no.

  • Thanks for all the feedback. Those of you who recommended thicker material and lining, do you have a brand to recommend?

OMG! Same thing with me, but 11 and at the waterpark. It was a teenager in a white suit and my older cousin followed him around drooling. She was in love and I was terrified!

  • Interesting...with all the commercials out right now with white swimsuits, I was laughing and saying to DH, "Wtf? Nobody wears white swim suits. That would be such a disaster..." but after this post, now I want to try one.

I have this bottom in white:

It has good coverage and is lined really well.  My top is from Hollister.

  • I love my white swimsuit, which is from Target from a few years ago.  It's held up really well.  I will say that you need to make sure to rinse it out thoroughly after each wear and wash it often because it'll become yellowish colored around the edges from sunblock if you don't.  Just something to think about.
