How much to remove bushes and shrubs?

We are buying a house, and there are many large shrubs and bushes in close proximity to the stairs and the perimeter of the house.  I mean a lot..  anyone ever have landscaping removed?

Re: How much to remove bushes and shrubs?

  • We removed our english yew bushes (and we had some giant ones) ourselves. We had to use a truck and a shovel to release some of the soil, but they came right out. We are removing more in the next few weeks- but pretty easy to do. If you dont have the resources it shouldnt cost much to have someone remove them for you.

  • This sounds just like our house when we moved in.  We had a huge rhododendron, along with many other bushes, that covered the stonework on the front of our house.  They were completely overgrown and neglected, so they needed to go.  We are lucky to have a friend with a backhoe who helped us remove it all.  Once we did that, our neighbors would stop and say "so that's what that house looks like!"  We're now in the process of planting new bushes. Good luck!

  • We had 3 very large pine type bushes that needed to go.  H hooked up chains to the bushes and then to his truck and just drove forward!  If he didnt have a pickup truck we probably would have rented a machine to do it.

Depending on what they are, you could move them or remove them.

I tore out all kinds of junk plants when I bought my house. The previous owner had all kinds of things that made NO sense and just didn't work (such as Roses and Hibiscus planted in full shade). Only a few were worth keeping (and after 15 years living here, I'm rethinking those as well). Now I have a very diverse plant palette and some really uncommon plants, which makes my landscape not only more interesting, but much more valuable.

  • Yes, our guy charges $5/plant (normal size shrub, like a rose size, not a magnolia size).
