TN passed legislation yesterday that makes harming an embryo murder.

Can you clarify? I didn't think most people destroyed unused embryos. And it doesn't seem like destroying non-viable embryos would count (does the actual legislation say fetus?).
Stem cell research? Maybe. But again, if the bill says fetus, an embryo is not a fetus.
Not that I don't think this is an appaling and dangerous bill.
ETA: I see that the OP does say embryo, so, yeah, no stem cell research in TN. Who needs to be able to walk and stuff?

I haven't read the bill and am not an expert on IVF by any means. I don't know how many unused embryos are destroyed. Essentially might have been the wrong word to use, possibly would have been better.

It is supposed to be an additional criminal charge when there is an assault, but I can see where this is going as I flail my arms.

How exactly do they define "harming"? A third takes a knife and jams it in a pregnant woman's gut? The pregnant woman has an abortion? A third party lights up a ciggie while next to a pregnant woman? The pregnant woman takes a drag off a ciggie? The pregnant woman drives 5 miles over the speed limit?
What about an accident during birth?

Or a woman with pre-diabetes knowingly gets pregnant, gets GD, the baby has a big chest, gets shoulder dystocia and brain damage.
Or an IVF tech accidentally drops a petri dish (never actually heard of this happenning, but I'm sure there are accidents).
Or, you know, listeria. Or an IUD - they prevent implantation.
Lunch meat will be a controlled substance for pregnant women.
Or worse, no Skittles for pregnant pre-diabetic women
