OK, I want to try it again

I was OOT for the last one so I couldn't join, but I'm gonna keep reading the books and plan to join the TIPBC. So what is the book for May? When do we plan to meet, so this time I can plan around it? I need details, people!

Why, oh why did you have to pick such an awful book? Now I'm torn between my intense desire to join the book club and my deep seeded hatred for The Great Gatsby.

I'm already forced to read one bloody awful book for school, am I able to force myself to read another one?

But I wanna be in the book club.

    *whines*

How 'bout this, ya'll read The Great Gatsby and I'll read Hunger Games and we'll discuss. I'm sure they have a lot in common. I mean they both use adjectives.

Coming from someone who also loved The Hunger Games with all my heart and soul...

    You're being fooking ridiculous, Damik!

It's okay to admit that, right now, you prefer to read the fun stuff that everyone is talking about.  It's okay to want a vacation and just read the entertaining stuff that's currently on the top of all the bestsellers lists.  But trying to argue this point by saying The Great Gatsby is "awful"?!

I'm willing to give it another chance, but I really didn't like it the first time I read it. I don't just focus on lite reading, I like the classics, The Great Gatsby just wasn't one I liked.

    It's my boyfriend's boyfriend!

Also I should probably join the book club since I have never read The Great Gatsby.

    Or the Hunger Games.

Damik- you have to understand our reaction.  If you had said "I really didn't enjoy The Great Gatsby..." that would've been fine.  But saying it's awful and then suggesting The Hunger Games as an alternative... doesn't look good!

And when did you first read it, Damik?  If you say high school... do me a favor and just try it again.  Things you read in high school (or late teens) are completely different books when you read them as an adult with life experience and a frame of reference!

  • You can read the Hunger Games on your own time, woman.

Or head over to NBC. I think they like to talk about it. Right, imoan?

I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns
  • Thinking The Great Gatsby is awful is just unfathomable to me.  Craziness.

There's a post that's like 50 replies in, raving about how awesome YA is.

I wont say more than that (all boards are The Nest).  The girls over there are nice.
