Dog adopted after 8 years at a no kill shelter.

Yeah for her!!!! Makes me want to go out and adopt a dog. Too bad my DH is allergic to everything under the sun.

  • I'm so glad she was adopted!!!  Man, stories about animals in shelters just make me want to cry, but at least this one had a happy ending!

  • I can't believe someone from the shelter or one of it's volunteers didn't take her years ago.  Or that they just didn't adopt her as the "official shelter mascot".

    That is surprising.

Yay for her!  I love seeing older dogs get adopted, but I'm really shocked no one adopted her as a puppy.

Dulcemaria: That's too bad about your H being allergic to all animals!  I loved having dogs around, though they are a lot of work in an apartment.

  • I actually love cats more. Did you see pics of the cat that weighs like 40 pounds. Crazy!! I feel bad for him. He cant walk but he seems like such a nice cat.

  • Poor thing!  I remember seeing a hugely obese dog and the owner was charged with abuse because the dog couldn't walk and the dog was taken from him.

This was it.  A sad story.  Some people just think it's ok to overfeed their animals.

  • Yay! What a sweet story.

  • Yay!

I'm a cat person but I would love a dog too sometime. Seems to be the best way to meet people in our neighborhood.

Now Nesting from Chicago, IL My nail blog:
  • That's amazing... she looks so sweet, and, in my mind, like a popular mid-sized breed.  So I'm shocked she spent so long at the shelter.

Regardless, wishing her and her new family all the best!

Shameless plug, but it's so close to my heart, I'll give the plug-- if you're considering getting a pet (even if you want a purebred) please consider rescue or, as we like to  say, "Opt to Adopt".  Rescue/adopted animals can be so loving and, if you're not familiar with rescue, you'd probably be surprised with how well/easily many adjust to their new homes.  Yes, there are sad exceptions and challenging cases, which if you have the time/ability to assist, are very rewarding; however, many, many rescues do not have lasting reminders of their previous lives.

You guys have probably all heard me brag, but our 2-3yr old (at the time) adopted English Setter is a great example.  She's perfect... been to hotels all over Europe, restaurants (including a couple Michelin star joints), ridden on trains, ferries, and cars.... never so much as one complainant from any other patron.  And that's not b/c we're super owners, she's just naturally that agreeable/well-behaved.  Sadly, physical signs indicate that Lucy had a pretty tough go of things on the streets of Caserta (southern IT).  However, to see her temperament and attitude, you'd never guess she was anything other than loved her whole life.

I'm sorry, I know that was long and kind of a plug, but hope it might encourage would-be pet owners to at least consider adoption/rescue.

    Thanks and doggie kisses,

    VAB and Lucy!
