what do you consider half assing a workout?

Lately I feel like I am having a tough time giving my all during each workout. My runs have been fairly mediocre, my weightlifting has been okay. But I haven't I just kicked ass in awhile. I'm not sure how to get my mojo back. I might take a week away from the gym after my half this weekend and see if a sense makes the heart grow fonder (or wait a few weeks until our family vacation). But whenever I miss a workout or two I feel off. Idk, anyone have this happen?

  • I get past this by changing up my cardio.  I'll switch from running to my bike to serious hiking.  It helps me get excited again.  I'm not training for anything though.  I just like to be outside and active so I'm not sure if that would be an option for you.

  • Are you getting enough sleep? It kind of sounds like you're not fully recovering from your workouts. I don't know if you'd want to take a full week off, but a few days is probably a good idea, especially after a race. And yes, sometimes I feel a bit off on days off, but sometimes not.
  • Not every workout is going to be a 10 but when you are consistently not in it, take a break. Maybe buy yourself a workout related treat (some new songs or a top) to get you excited again. Usually after a couple days off, I find myself itching to do some kind of workout (i.e. walk around the neighborhood or a Turbo Fire dvd)
  • Idk, anyone have this happen?

Shiiit...this happens to me all.the.damn time.  Changing things up helps me-if not switching out a couple of runs for some spin or kickboxing classes, then trying out a new running route.  Or adding some new songs to my usual playlist.  Or if the cost effective stuff doesnt work...I buy some new workout clothes ;)  Nothing crazy, maybe a new top or pair of pants at Target...but it helps me get my mojo back.

Or if its in the budget...a new pair of running shoes.  New shoes always make me happy :D

  • Half assing it usually involves me using the elliptical machine instead of running.

This normally happens to me when I don't have a goal to work towards.  Once I realize I am in a funk I sign up for a new race or mix it up a bit.

  • I can tell I'm half-assing in the pool a lot of days.  I swim with a masters group where I can lead the lane without much effort.  It takes a lot of discipline for me to really push it.

I'd really benefit from finding a group that does tighter intervals, more yardage... but I don't have a lot of time in my life to fit it in (I'd have to drive further).

    This too.  Definitely.
