Crowds in WDW on Halloween?

Has anyone been in the Magic Kingdom on Halloween itself? We'll be down there and would like to spend the day in the park, letting our daughter go to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, have lunch at Cinderella's Castle, etc. We're not planning to get tickets to the Halloween Party, as we've heard that the crowds for that are insane, so we'll probably leave the Magic Kingdom mid-afternoon, go relax for a bit, and then hit Downtown Disney for trick-or-treating.

A friend has heard that the crowds that day are ridiculous, but everything I've read seems to tie the crowds to the Halloween Party itself. Any experience?

Re: Crowds in WDW on Halloween?

  • I didn't go during the day but I did go to the party. You are right, it was insanely crowded but so much fun.  DD still talks about it.   I would think that the crowds would not be as busy during the day just because people would be going to the party that night.   It would be a long day for the kids with the Halloween parade being so late at night.

  • it will be a bit more crowded than normal because there will be people going to the party that night that will not want to have to travel between parks.  especially with reservations for some activites that day you will be fine.  sounds like a great day for your daughter, have fun!

  • It's a very busy day in the park, even before the party starts that evening. We spent last Halloween there & it wasn't unbearable but was certainly more crowded than usual. I'm sure that the BBBoutique is total mayhem that day.
  • I was there for Halloween this past year. The crowds in the morning were not bad at all. The BBBoutique and the Pirate Dress-up Place (can't remember the name) were totally booked so I would suggest booking that as far in advance as possible. We left Magic Kingdom around 4pm and it did appear that more people were arriving so I'm guessing it gets pretty crowded as the night goes on. We didn't do Downtown Disney for trick-or-treating so I have no idea what the crowd is like there. I actually loved being at Disney for Halloween and we are planning on doing it again this year.

I'm a local but have never braved Downtown Disney on Halloween night. Some of my friends have though and reported that the crowds were awful. I have read reports that they were discontinuing trick or treating at Downtown Disney. You may want to check into that before making any firm plans.
