Bad Teachers

I just watched this video on Yahoo about a teacher and aide in a classroom talking about drinking too much and personal problems in a class of austistic children who have communication problems so they couldn't tell their parents. You can hear the teacher telling the child to shut up and also telling him that he won't be able to see his father  and that he is a b@stard. It was heart-breaking to listen to and also to see how hurt his father was. I cannot imagine how hard it would be to have a child with special needs who cannot say what is wrong and have his teachers abusing the situation. I was in tears watching the video. I just cannot imagine why someone like that would ever want to become  teacher.

Re: Bad Teachers

  • That is so sad. I saw a post about this same topic over on PCE. I read that they didnt fire the teacher and aide. They just moved them over to another school. That is horrible.

  • So I'm a special ed teacher and have taught children with autism, I have seen horrible things.  Horrible.  I turned teachers in at the last school I was at, I was a supply teacher.

Why are these people teaching if this is how they are going to act?  Were the teachers you turned in genuinely remorseful or did they just get pissed they were caught and you turned them in?

I can't even imagine treating a child like that let alone one who can't communicate with words back.  Awful awful awful.

  • I couldn't even click to listen to the audio. Just reading it made me sick.

It's sickening.  I am from that town and can't believe the school didn't immediately fire both teachers in the class -- I think they've been fired by now, but only because of the public outcry.  I'm even more outraged that a bunch of "friends of friends" on FB who are teachers have said that this type of abuse is COMMON!!!  And that other teachers fear losing their jobs if they speak out against the offenders. Un-F$*%-ing believable.

There's a petition on change.org to get NJ to enact a law which would protect our kids from these "teachers' by firing them if they abuse a child in any way - physical, verbal or mental.  I tried ot sign it, but it doesn't seem to take out-of-country addresses.

Unbelievable. I would totally risk losing my future teaching job to speak out against abusive teachers. Not to mention as a teacher your mandated to tell CPS/School Adminstration if you believe a student is being abused outside of the school. I'm sure that includes abuse by those in the school. If others new they should be fired too!

  • I watched that yesterday and was totally stunned and heartbroken. Why? Why would that woman WANT to work in special ed? I understand, from my very limited experience with autistic children in a classroom setting, that it can be very challenging, but for f*** sake don't do it if you really have that little patience.
