Anybody know about services for sensory kids in France?

We started preparing for an overseas assignment with DH's company several years ago.  Back then it looked like it would be China.  Then DS came along and he has some special needs.  He has apraxia of speech and sensory processing disorder so we back burnered China because we didn't think we could get him the speech therapy and occupational therapy he needs.  He is now 3 and doing very well in private therapy.  Another opportunity has come up in France so we are starting to think about it again.  However, theses early years are critical for DS, so if we can't be certain that DS's needs will be met over there, we will have to pass up this opportunity.

Has anyone ever taken a special needs child overseas?  How did ou coordinate services?  And specifically, does anyone know what is available in France for SPD kids?

  • Hi!

Do you know which region the assignment is in? I know there are associations established in France and a paediatrician can guide you to the proper resources. I believe the CAF can also help. I think you would need to find a neurop?diatre and an orthophoniste in your area. If you don't speak French, this can be a problem. However in areas of France with large expat populations, you can find English speaking doctors and resources. If you need help with this, let me know on here or in a PM.

My DS is 3 and in first year of kindergarten, his main teacher has been working with a lot of the kids for speech delays, pronunciation etc... on a one on one basis.
