Date attire?

I'm lucky that with my current job I don't really have a dress code unless I'm meeting with someone. Right now I normally wear jeans or shorts and a tee.... That plus my lack of dating recently has left me kind of lost as to what normal date attire is.

I know what I would wear to do something outside (hike / walk) or going out to a club or bar. But what do you wear for a dinner date? What about going to a sporting event (softball game)?

I live in a pretty low key town, not sure if that matters.

Re: Date attire?

  • I have a few different "dinner/drinks" outfits I wear. I have "nice" jeans as my basis, a standard pair of cute black heels or boots, and a few different tops depending on what type of place it is. For example, I went to a "hipster" bar a few weeks back and wore a cute "dressy" black tee, a hot (faux) leather jacket, cute earrings and jeans/heels. I didn't feel overdressed, but I knew I looked good. For another date at a nice Italian restaurant, I had a wrap-style sweater that was a bit dressier, jeans/heels. I like having a few standard "go to's".

As for a sporting event...I keep it more casual. I went to a pro-soccer game a few weeks ago and wore a grey sweater, grey converse and a fleece. Cute but casual. If I would have had a cute team shirt, I might have worn that and fit in just great.

  • IMO you can't go wrong with nice jeans and a pair of heels with a flirty top. Though, the heels would probably be a bad idea if you are going somewhere outside that you would need to walk in grass, in that case, depending on the weather, I'd maybe go with platform-ish type sandals. This type of outfit would even work for a casual dinner. I'm a believer in casual is better LOL

  • Thanks! That's exactly what I was thinking too. I'm generally a pretty casual person unless I have a work meeting or am in court for something. In that case I wear professional attire like a pant suit and really high heels so it really doesn't help me with outfits. I can't imagine wearing any of my work heels on a date. I think I'll pick up some cute and somewhat fancy flats and platform sandles for date clothing. I have plenty of nice jeans and cute tops.
